I have a Sporterized Remington 1903 sn 31159xx and I found the initials "DYE" stamped on the bottom of the barrel. Its an original barrel with a 5/42 barrel date. Anyone know what the "DYE" stands for? Is it a Militarily inspector, or the gunsmith that customized the rifle.

If you do an advanced search for Remington Model 1903 with the word "dye" in quotation marks, you will get a few topics about matching stock and handguard color, and then a direct link back to this thread.

So, no. It is not a military mark to my knowledge, and I have had several of these out of the stock.
