1903 Colt

I have made arrangements to have my 1903 Colt hard chromed in a matte finnish. (thanks again for the help)

Now I would like to buy a set of after market grips. but have had little luck in finding anything that I would like to put on this 'ladies gun'.

I would like something in black (ebony?) or perhaps mother-of-pearl.

Suggestions?

I presume you have Colt’s .32, 1903 Pocket Model rather then the larger 1903 .38 Automatic.

Anyway, check out the following:

Altamont Company
PO Box 309
Thomasboro, IL. 61878

Ajax Custom Grips

Eagle Grips, Inc.

Any of them can fix you up. Altamont by the way, is famous for some excellent scrimshaw work. For something extra-special look into this.

Who did you choose for the hard chrome?

The Cogan Custom Shop.

On advice from this forum, I contacted the web site, liked his straight-foreward approach and the price is affordablly realistic.

My Kimber was very well done. Weshoot2 recommended him to me and I'm very pleased. Let me know how it comes out. One of those guns is on my wish list.. :)

I have to ask, the collector blood is showing through. Why are you chroming the gun, the finish is shot? I'd hate to see a really nice collectable gun have it's value cut to a fraction if it's in good shape with the original finish... :)

This gun is in excellent mechanical condition with a nice brite barrell. Also, it funtions perfectly, no malfuntions of any kind. The finnish is about 80% which I regard as not really tacky, but not really nice either.

In my mind, the .32 auto has no value as a personal protection piece and this model is not all 'that' concealable anyway--that is to say that there a goodly number of pistols that are much easier to conceal and a lot better fight stoppers than this one.

Now, the 1903 Colt is a nice gun to shoot at the range and a nice gun for someone who is not interested in setting the grass on fire (read wife, girlfriend, youngster, etc).

I know that the monitary value of this gun will be reduced by doing this, but the value as a shooter, because of the esthetic enhancements, will be improved.

I already have more money than I will spend, why shouldn't I have the gun look like I want it to look? As far as I can see, the only one who will be disappointed by that mindset is whoever my last doctor is. :D

I guess it comes down to one's definition of "value."

Just tossing in an alternate opinion. :) Obviously, you're free to chrome your original Colt SAA if you like, though it's generally not considered a good idea. :D:D
