I just got a shotgun from my father that is halfway restored. Everything on it is original, except we are going to reblue it.
Its a standard breach shotgun , except that the pin used to connect the barrel to the rest of the weapon is screwed in with a pin that has a handle on it.
The wierd thing is that this shotgun has no serial or model number on it. This is the first time Ive owned a weapon this old. I dont know if it is normal.
On the top of the barrel, it just has "December 11,1900 *Choked Barrel*".
Behind the trigger guard it has "Z008" stamped.
On the metal piece behind the wood grip, there is "290" stamped on it.
Above the trigger on one side of the weapon, it has "Western Arms Company" carved into it in western style letters.
That is all the markings on this weapon.
This weapon has been "lost" for about 11 years. The person that my mother asked to restore it seemed to misplace it for 11 years. During this time, he did give us some information. This weapon he says seems to be from the company that was bought out by the Ithica company in New York. This was supposedly a very early version of a shotgun made by the Western Arms Company, and that there were 15 made, and only two survive at this time.
It was supposed to be a present on my 21st birthday, but Im finally getting it at 32.
I cannot find any information about this weapon anywhere on the net. Can someone please try and help enlighten me on this weapon? Maybe let me know if anything he said was true?
I took some pictures, but I only had a cheap digital camera where I was at. Ill see if I can post some pictures of it soon.
