1900 Ameriacan Eagle Luger 7.65 8" barrel

Cannot find any comparatives for this gun I have just purchased; Ser. # 23011 which should be right for a 1903 manufacture date.
It is a DWM luger with US Seal on breach, hidden ser.#s as per commercial models.
Has 800 meter adjustable 1914 Artillery Luger type rear sight.
Any info would be appreciated:confused:
 
Hum... That's a curious one.

With that length barrel you'd expect it to be cut for a shoulder stock.

Is it?

Also, good, clear, photographs are a good thing to include.

I agree - Someone most likely installed an 8" Erfurt or DWM Artillary Model bbl on what should have been a 4" gun.

The DWM Artillary Models were date stamped ove the chamber, AFAIK, 1914-18.

If it's a DWM dated bbl, it's much later than a 23000-range SN gun.

Thanks all for your input! I will indeed follow up with more research on pistol once I get my paws on it. Paper work to transfer from Estate to dealer to me will take a bit as the old gent that owned it let registration lapse back about 1968 and we're just fortunate to have been able to find it was once registered or it would be smelter food!
I had pretty much concluded a 1900 commercial should not have had an arty barrel so thanks for confirmation.
 
I guess the question is, is really it an 8" 7.65 as you say in the topic?

A 9mm artillery barrel on a AE gun is one thing.
A .30 artillery barrel is quite something else.

But the only 7.65mm non-carbine (carbines were 11-3/4") bbl I can recall is from the 1920 Long Barrel Commercial Models, which were supposed to be anywhere from 10"-20" long - so maybe a custom shortening ?

A few pics would be nice, especially of the muzzle end of the bbl. (Presuming the barrel length was measured correctly/internally via a rod dropped downbore against the closed breech)

Yes, I wondered if it were a sawn off Carbine barrel.
I once shot a Luger with Artillery barrel sawn off to 6" on a P08.

All we can do is wait until the OP takes delivery and puts up some pictures.
 
thanks for your interest gentlemen & I will post lots of pics once I have gun. Also got a half box of DMW hollow point ammo with the pistol & I'll post some pics of that as well. Story is ( & like I've already read somewhere; "you buy the gun, not the story!!) that the old gents father picked it up as a war trophy in WW I . That doesn't seem likely though unless some enterprising soul accessed a DWM plant & threw a souvenir together. It will be an interesting history to try and trace.
PS No, I don't want to trade for a new box of Fiochi;)
