Anyone know what this is worth? We took it to our local gun shop, he agreed with the dates of late 1800's early 1900's numbers 258179 on the butt, pearl handle, he was unable to quote us a REAL price. His GUESS was between, 600.00 and 1900.00.?

The serial number is in the range for a .38 Safety Hammerless Fifth Model, as made from 1907 clear up til 1940.

Pro:
Looks like a 5" barrel which is longer than most.
Pearl handles.

Con:
Pretty rusty.

Flayderman says $225 in NRA Antique Very Good condition.

IMHO, if your gun shop will give you $600 for it, take the money and run, do not walk, to the door. If they will give you $1900, use roller skates.

As Jim Watson correctly pointed out it's a .38 Safety Hammerless 5th Model.
Serial numbers ran from 220000 in 1907 to 261493 in 1940.
Value in excellent condition is around $500 to $600.
Yours would be less.

Jim
