1894 - Mag capacity after 2002

I have heard that the limitation of 10 rounds in a tube fed lever gun will be lifted as of 1/1/2002. Does anyone know how many rounds a 1894 in .44 mag will be capable of holding in this case?

Dave

I wasn't aware of tube-fed magazines having any limitations on capacity. The last Marlin Model 60 (tube fed, semi-auto .22) held 15.

I suspect mechanical limitations will limit the capacity to less than ten, though.

There's an italian replica of the 1873 (I think) winchester rifle with a 30" barrel and a 17 round magazine in .44-40 or .45 Colt.

10 rounds are over 15" long. The 20" barrel length of the 1894 (some of which is in the receiver) only allows for 19" of usable mag tube. Unless you can figure a way to do away with the spring, the limit is going to stay at 10.

Hmm

That's weird. A Marlin lever gun with a 16" barrel and full length tube in .357 or .44 holds 8+1 rounds.

A Winchester lever gun with a 16" barrel and a full length tube (the Trapper model) holds 9+1 rounds.

A Marlin 1894 in .45-70 holds four rounds in the magazine tube.

A Marlin 444 in .444 Marlin holds five rounds in the magazine tube.

The two cartridges are nearly identical in length. I think the .444 case might even be a bit longer.

*shrug*

The exemption of tube fed rifles in CA applies to .22 rimfire ONLY!!

I don't know what's gonna happen nationaly in '04 for detachable magazines but I have heard that Bush intends to
keep things the way they are. That's just rumor as far as I know though. Either way I bet that the retards in charge
here in CA will keep things the way they are in this state:barf:

It is going to be very confusing if the ban is not reinstated. I am certainly not saying it should but many states like New York and Callifornia have passed mirror laws without the expiration (yes I made up the term mirror law). So for example if it is not reinstated. A ar that I buy today will be able to be modified to a collapsable stock after sept 04 if I live in vermont, not in New York, but I could not take that rifle to New York becuase they have a state ban. Standard caps could only be sold to certain state (like NJ was before). To compound that most of the state laws do not have requirements for marking the receiver so how will we know when the federal ban expires other than cerail number when and where things are legal. Thirdly what if a police officer buys now a m4 clone with a 16 inch barrell for duty use with his own money. They ban expires and he wants to sell it to a civilian. There is no reason at that point the civillian can't own it but it will be marked for police only, same with mags.

TO confuse it more what if the law is reinstated but there is a lapsa of 1 day to a year between the activation of the new law. Delayed for some reason etc. In that one day you would see allot of post ban stuff beeing converted to preban configeration and everything up to that point is now pre new ban and you can convert it.

Ahh I hope the ban just expires peacefully maybe do to something else more troubling going on in the world and it will all go away. Very confusing to think about though and people will just be stuck with strange state laws, like my former state of NY. God I love Vermont.

Ajacobs...

I am not confused at all by this. Just stay out of New York, California, and similar hell-holes!

A lot of us down here in Georgia agree with your state's motto, by the way!
