1893 Marlin 25-36 Takedown Rifle

i hope someone here knows more about this rifle than i've been able to find out. anything about it would be appreviated-is ammo or brass available-i saw that RCBS has dies but so far that's all i know. cannot find any mention of it on the few old guns sites i've visited...Thanks in advance....Dick

Brass is available, I believe from Bertand and possibly a couple of other sources.

Try Old Western Scrounger, too.

I'm not certain, but wasn't the .38-56 based on a shortened .45-70 case?

I'll check my Donnelly book on cartridge conversions when I get home this evening.

I think the 25-36 is just a marlin version of a 25-35 winchester but am not positive on that as I dont have the specs for the 25-36 at hand now. If so 25-35 can be found and can be made from 30-30 or savage hipower cases.

if it's compatible with the winchester 30-30 round - could i just buy 25-36 dies and size down to 25. i think i'll cut down a 30-30 to see if the rim portion of casing will go into chamber. if you find any more info please let me know. is there somewhere that loading data could be found?? thanks again for you guys helping with this....Dick

This cartridge was adopted by Marlin for their lever action Model 93 rifle. Originally called the 25-37 it was probably inspired by the 25-35 Winchester. The two are very similar
but not interchangeable although the 25-35 can be fired in the slightly longer 25-36 chamber.

The 25-36 and the 25-35 WCF are so similar that loading data are interchangeable, and with almost identical results. However, many rifles for the Marlin cartridge were not strong
enough to withstand maximum loads safely. An fps of 2000 velocity with the 25-36.
