1891 restoration

I have a 1891 Argentine Mauser, long rifle that I would like to restore to the original configuration and is in need of a new stock (upper and lower parts) bands, cleaning rod and front and rear sights. Can anyone advise where these components can be obtained from?
Thanks

Sorry, can't help you on locating the parts, but I did want to mention that only Norma makes ammo for this gun, and it isn't particularly cheap.

Also, have the gun looked over by a good 'smith before shooting; it may or may not be up to handling the loads. I'd hate to see anybody find out their rifle couldn't the *hard* way....

Good luck,

Hi, fcompton,

In truth, you might be better off just buying another rifle. Those 1891 models are pretty common and most are in great condition. I paid $180 for a near mint one a month or so ago (crest ground of course), and the cost of the parts, plus the trouble to restore the rifle you have would not seem, IMHO, to be worth it.

For parts, try http://www.gunpartscorp.com and see what they have.

Argentine made 7.65x54 (some call it 7.65x53) ammo is available at reasonable prices, but is corrosive, so cleaning is necessary after firing. Cases can be made from .30-'06 even though the latter case is smaller in diameter at the base.
