I am new to this forum and apologise if this post is in the incorrect spot.
I own an 1890 Winchester .22 WRF sn: 149061. This unit has the left side take-down screw and octagonal barrel. I have owned it for about 30 years but the previous owner appears to have had the rifle blued, the stock refinished, hammer and interior parts polished etc. Has this work diminished the rifle's value?
Thanks for your help.

Afraid so, if the work was done (and can be shown to have been done) by Winchester not as badly, but refinish of old collectable guns really will hurt there value.

Do you ever take it off the wall for a loving trip to a range?
I have one and a half doz cases of reproduction ammo for it.
The old rifle goes every time the Grandchildren are along on a range trip.
Back in the early seventies when I took the 1890 on trade I could still buy lead bullet ammo and that ammo caused me to think I needed to sleeve the barrel. With the reproduction copper washed (I believe) ammo I have never had a flyer.
With the old ammo I was key-hole-ing about every other round fired or more.
My rifles Serial no. 4563xx

That depends on the condition of the rifle before it was refinished. A totally trashed rifle professionally refinished will be worth more than before; a 50% rifle reblued by a hack will be worth less than before.

But it really doesn't matter now, you have already had the work done. Enjoy the rifle, and shoot it often.

This 103 year old rifle went to the range today with a niece we havn't seen in 20 year. She had never handled a 100 year old gun.
She also shot on this trip;
.22 Sport King, .22 Single six Ruger, .45 Auto in a Pera LDA PDA, .45 Super in a Springfield V16,
454 Casul Freedom Arms M-83 and my .54 Cabala's Hawken's Flintlock.

My dad gave me his 1890 24" octagon barrel .22 WRF a few years ago. Of all the guns I own, it's the one I pick to go shoot when I just want to have fun. Shoots lights out. Love the gun.
