1886 Winchester reproduction

Can anyone give me info as to how good the Takedown winchester 1886 reproduction is, and resonable price for a new one in box. To be used as a shooter.

Randy,

I have a Win. '86 Takedown and shoot it on a semi-regular basis.

First, the workmanship is superb!
The action is a smooth as any original Win. ever was.
The accuracy is outstanding for a lever gun w/open sights.

BTW, it's not a reproduction rifle, it's a current mfg. Winchester '86.

I shoot mine w/either 405gr. or 500gr. Laser Cast bullets. I figure that's as close to a "traditional" load as I can get for a "traditional" rifle. I favor the 500's at slightly over 1500 fps.

They are now out of production so I would guess that you will have to look around for the best price. I paid $1000 for mine and they listed at $1140 as I recall.

Check http://www.gunsamerica.com for available rifles.

Don't have the take down model but I have one of the new 1886 Extra Lightweights and it is an execelent example of what a fine leveraction should be.Fine workmanship, good accuracy, slick action and reliable.I kinda wish it didn't have the extra tang safety on it.I would prefer it like the originals, but at least they saw fit not to put one of then dam cross bolt safeties on it like the Mod 94s have now days.

Nevada,

The Xtra Light is my next '86 for this year.
They were hard to find initially but I see a couple around now.
