1886 Take Down / 454 lever

Just bought a Winchester 1886 take down in a new production model. It is nice but heavy. For another 700 plus dollars i can rebarrel and retube it to 20 inches keep the orginnal barrel and tube and still have a short take down. Am i nuts?

Live in Alaska so i would carry this.

PS- was told by reliable source wild west guns in anchorage alaska is going to be producing there own 454 lever.

To be polite, I wouldn't put it this way but you would be destroying a beautiful rifle.

Plus the $$ amount that you would have invested in your new project, cost of '86 + $700 or more, is somewhat excessive, don't you think?

I would sell the '86 to someone who will appreciate it for what it is and then purchase what you feel more comfortable with.
