1862 colt army

Hi, Can anyone help I've a Colt Army 1862 which has wear at the end of the barrel left side, I read somewhere that this was a typical type of wear for a civil war calavry gun,is this true and why would it have wear at that part of the gun?

First of all, Welcome to the forum...

....You came to the right place.

The wear on the muzzle is from the holster. It is not confined to pistols from the Civil War era, so don't let a vendor tell you it is original based only on the fact that it has holster wear.
 
And that's not wear from a military style holster. If it was it would be on the right side. That's wear from a right hand strong side holster.
 
Also sorry my mistake,the wear is on the right side of the barrel,so it could be from a civil war type holster? I find it hard to believe a leather holster could cause such wear on a steel barrel!

It would take years of constant use. My uncle had a .38 Colt that had the barrel worn down almost to the sight on the left side.
