I am thinking of buying the 1858 conversion revolver #1002 a .38 special cal from Taylor.

My question is can I shoot :

GOEX Cowboy Action Ammunition
Item:IK-216113 cabellas

And

.38 Special Bulk Ammunition – 158-gr. SWC
Item:IK-216747 calellas

One is cowboy ammo and the other is “regular ammo.” I guess my question is what are all the options of ammo can I shoot with this gun. Thanks…..

Yes you can shoot cowboy ammo with a conversion
cylinder, but stay away from factory ammo, unless
it states COWBOY AMMO, or you can load yourself
bp ammo like i do for my 58 conversion, and for led you
can use rb, bp smokers are not made for high press,:)

Yup, you're gonna need cowboy loads. I believe all blackpowder loaded cartridges are going to be cowboy loads regardless of how much blackpowder they stuff in the cartridge. With modern smokeless powder you are going to need to make sure they are marked as "cowboy loads".

If you plan to shoot a lot consider loading the cartridges yourself to save money. I see that a box of 45 Colt Goex blackpowder cartridges sells for $34.99 at Cabelas. This doesn't even include shipping nor the required federal HAZMAT shipping fee. I can load up 45 Colt myself for a cost of $9 to $12 per 50.

ironically, the conversion cylinder is proofed to SAAMI standard for 38 special, otherwise the manufacturer cant put 38 spcl on the gun.

secondly, if you go by CAS standards forcowboy ammo, the requirements are that the ammunition cannot push a bullet faster then 1,000 fps. thus both cartridges you listed are within CAS standards on bullet/velocity.

also, the remington revolver is alot tougher then the colt design. although it is stronger, the barrel will not be good for use with any non lead bullet. in fact you may be forced to use hollowbase bullets as i doubt taylors installed 38spcl diameter barrells on these guns.

The conversions that are sold by Taylors will be able to shoot any .38 special ammo on the market today. These guns are made from the start to be .38 special cartridge guns, not converted black powder guns. They are not made to shoot +p .38 ammo but neither is a regular .38 special revolver.
