I notice the front barrel band swivel on my repro Enfield is offset, anyone know the reason for this?

It's a stacking swivel but isn't proper for the third model which is what most war guns were. Is proper for fourth model which saw limited service late in war.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the stacking swivel have a cut in it to interlock the rifles?

Later ones do. I don't really know when that was started but its the only reason I know of for an offset swivel.

All Springfield muskets do not have a third swivel.

Neither do Enfields
