this is my first year deer hunting with a revolver. i have hunted in NY since I was 16 now 44 and have been very successful with my 870 12 gauge and my bow for many many years, I would say I am a pretty good shot on game. so thought I would share my experience with my Blackhawk in 357 with a ultradot red dot and rim rock 180 grain hard cast gas check slugs (same bullet buffalo bore uses) and 13.5 grains of 2400. shot this load over a chronograph and my low was 1291 and high was 1306 fps so I was about 200 fps slower than factory buffalo bore, not to bad I was happy with it, shot very good groups at 50 yards when I got the red dot sighted in I had 3 touching at 6:30 below center of target and 2 touching at 1:00 above center. so to the hunt I am in my climber and 2 doe come to my right and I pick out the larger of the 2 and click on my red dot and cock the revolver I brace my shooting elbow on top part of my climber and whistle and she stops at 50 yards out broadside I touch off the round and I can see the round breaks her shoulder and she's running on 3 legs and piles up 60 yards away. I go to field dress her and the 180 grain hard cast went clean through her broke down close side shoulder and out the brisket not going to lie and say it left a huge hole because it didn't but she was done for as soon as the slug hit her, granted this is only one deer with my 357 but I can say that my 870 with 300 grain slugs killed no faster than the 180 grain hard cast, I know there is all ways debates on how well a 357 will do, I say loaded properly and it works in spades..
