18.5" threaded barrel?

just got back from the gun store saw a 870 "tactical" it had a threaded barrel with the breeching choke--- has anyone seen these barrels for sale? I could not find the threaded barrels on remingtons web page also this was a new gun. any info on this barrel would be a great help

THIS WAS A 18.5" BARREL WITH THAT BREECHER CHOKE--- i DON'T REALLY WANT THE BREECHER SHOKE BUT WANT A 18.5 BARREL THAT IS THREADED FOR REMCHOKES--- SURPRISED THAT i COULDN'T FIND IT ON THERE WEB PAGE
 
When I was with LAPD, if you passed the training, they issued you a Remington 870 with a 20 inch Rifled Barrel Slug gun and we had to qualify at 75 yards. It kicked like a mule but was pretty accurate. They were intended to be used on the rooftops of the station against drive bys and to really knock the crap out of anyone with body armor. This was in the 1990s. The guns were stamped LAPD and my have been a special order!!

It's assumed that if you want an 18.5 barrel that you intend to use it in close quarters, and you'll want a cyl. bore for maximum shot spread or for slugs. If they were to offer a 18.5" barrel with a Rem Choke, I suspect they wouldn't sell very many.
 
In mossberg, I would love an 18 inch barrel with their "accu choke" threads as my primary hunting gun.

Since I NEVER wing shoot, I don't need the long barrels and even for rabbit, I like the short barrel for mobility. They don't call 'em swamp rabbits for nuttin'.:D

I think they would out sell the non-threaded barrels---with the choke system it would give me a choice--- I have read and been told that the choke dictates the pattern more so than barrel length. I like the idea of having a tighter choke for driving dirt roads for partridge and another for throwing rifled slugs all in a nice short package. BTW the 870 I was looking at had ghost ring sights which would be far superior for slugs. In essence I want a short shotty for all occasions

You were told correct... actually, barrel length has ZERO influence on pattern. I mean it might result in a couple hundred thousandths difference but only in distance of muzzle from target...

Just get your short barrel threaded for choke tubes. If the outside diameter of the barrel (at the muzzle) is over.845" it should accept Rem-Chokes or Mossberg Accu-Chokes.

I have an 870 Marine that I had threaded for RemChokes and absolutely love the gun now. I it was not very expensive to have it threaded and the versatility is really worth the small cost.
 
The only barrel I use on my 870 is 18.5 inches and is threaded. I find that you loose very little speed from an 18 inch barrel compared to a 24 inch barrel.

I use it for Ducks, Geese, Turkeys and Pheasants. Having multiple chokes allows me to do any thing with the short barrel that I could do with the longer barrels.
 
thats exactly what im thinking deja vu--- turkey, deer, patridge, and of course BG kickin in the front door.
