Just a quick one guys just wanting to know who makes a .17 remmy in a heavy barrel? And or a good quality gun in this cal?

cheers

Jay

This does not answer your question, but for interest sake you should compare the .17 remington to the .204 ruger ballistically. Then you should look at the Sako Varmit heavy barrel rifle, which is chambered for the .204.

.17 Rem

I already have an sps varmint in 204 ruger with a jewwell trigger and a h-s precision stock topped with a bushnell elite 6500 4.5-30 x 50mm. I'ts my pride and joy nearly love it more than the missus. Just looking for a good 17.
Thanks for the advice though, i would give the same advice too.

I have a Savage model 93 with the bull barrel, stainless and the laminated thumbhole stock. It is really a nice rifle. I think I paid $289 a couple years ago. All guns have gone up and they may be about $400 now but I think the new ones come with the rings, I believe I had to buy my own, The blue one would be cheaper. It is a real tackdriver and smooth operating. Try it and I'll bet you really like it. I don't really know who else makes one , Ruger maybe. Hard to beat that Savage trigger. It's got two swing swivel mounts on the front which is also unusual.

"I have a Savage model 93 ..........."

He's looking for a .17 Rem. Center fire.

Just saw a Rem 700 BDL in .17 at a gun shop in Henderson NV. Maybe a month ago. Can't remember if it was a heavy barrel or not.

Cooper
CZ
Not a lot of others, those are the ones that come to mind. Even Remington has discontinued the 17 Remington chambering.

Remington chamber their rifles in the 17 Remington fireball now.
It achieves similar velocity as the 17 remington but using less powder.

X2 on the Cooper and CZ per Scorch. One other option might be to locate a good used or closeout Remington LVSF in that cal. and change out the thin fluted barrel for a heavy aftermarket one; would also have to change to a stock for the appropriate dia. barrel, of course. I'm looking at doing that to my .204 LVSF as we speak.
