Although I haven't shot it yet , I purchased a Ruger single six .17HMR for $300. I bought on line a new/old stock Swift 2x pistol scope and a Weigand mount and rings. I am getting the trigger worked on right now, haven't shot it yet. All my friends bought .17 rifle and are all hot on the caliber. Thought I'd be a little different. Any body been shooting/hunting with a .17HMR pistol yet? Any .17HMR pistol experiences/impressions youd like to share? :)

Well I traded my .17 Ruger Single Six which I just bought for $300, for a same in "hunter' format for $175 and my 'like NIB' gun. I like the extra inch of barrel(7.5") and the neat factory rings. I like the V rear notch and bead front sight - in case I get charged by a ground squirrel :D ! To boot the grips on the stainless gun fit better and preliminary indoor range testing today with the 2X swift scope(very bright-a good scope!) were around 1" at 25yards,rested, with Hornady ammo which is better than the old gun did..I have a Uncle Mikes nylon scoped handgun bandolier type holster that fits it(from my .30 carbine scoped Blackhawk) so I can pack it doing farm chores in areas with ground squirrels :D . Of course it, like all new Rugers needs a trigger job. This gun is much heavier than the standard Single Six having a ribbed barrel and no aluminum parts, finally I can give my .17HMR rifle toting buddies a run for their money! :D

I have a Taurus Tracker in 17 and absolutely love it. I use it to hunt rabbits and from the pistol it is excellent. Velocity is cut down enough so that it wouldn't make the animal explode but it would definitely wreck the boiler room.
