16" barrel on 870?

I'm interested in an 870 tactical shotgun setup. I really like the 870P except I wish it were a bit shorter. I want the barrel to be as short as possible. I know with rifles barrels can be as short as 16" before they go to class II. Anyway is 16" legal for shotguns too, if so how come Remington doesn't seem to make one? I know the 14" models are class II and as much as I'd like to have one I'm just not going to go through the trouble or the added cost to get one. Does anyone make an aftermarket 16" barrel? I really like the 870P except I wish it were a bit shorter.

Min barrel length on shotguns is 18" from the bolt face. Keep it a little longer cause the ATF will raid you're house and kill you if they think it is .1" too short.

D,
On a shotgun, it has to be 18 inches. Sixteen puts it into the restricted category.

Yes IF it is OVER 18" , as measured by exact calibrated rod dropped to breech face with bolt in battery, AND welded, soldered or blind hole pinned into place. Why bother? Go 18.5" and learn to shoot it properly!

I don't know what you find better about a 16" (if it were legal) than an 18" tube. There is a point where the shorter the barrel the less controlable it becomes. You might find it near impossible to get a second shot off as fast as a longer barrel. I don't think that 2 to 4 inches of barrel will slow you down in a HD situation. Short barrels are great in movies and cool to see, but practical?? and worthwhile?? Just another no charge opinion.
