150 gr. from 700PSS

First off, I think the twist rate is around 1:12......feel free to correct me if I'm off.

I recently bought several boxes of Remington Core Lokt(sp?) in 150gr.
After talking to some folks and searching the archives here, I'm begining to wonder if my Rem 700PSS can shoot this round accurately. I know 168gr. is supposed to be the BEST, but at $10.90 a box, I couldn't pass this stuff up.
I sighted the rifle using 180gr. Remington ammo. Is POI going to change drastically with the 150gr. stuff? Is the 150gr to fast for my rifle?

The PSS .308 was a 1:9 twist while the PSS .223 was a 1:12. The word was the twist in .308 was changed from 1:12 to 1:9 to better stabilize the heavier bullets. Shilen has a page of barrel twists and recommended bullet weights. But how will your PSS shoot the 150's? Only range time will tell... but either way you'll have brass to reload! ;) BTW, the only difference between the Remington PSS and VS is different stocks and barrel twist in .308. The .223 twists are the same.

POI may change drasticly - then again, maybe not. The odds are excellent that it will change..

Time to hit the range!

Dikyllis -- 150 grain stuff should shoot fine out of the 700PSS. 168 and 175 are about as heavy (long) as you really want to go.

Darkstar -- you've got those reversed. .223 uses a 1:9 for the heavier bullets. The .308 uses the 1:12 twist that Remington uses in all their .308's (per phone call to Remington).

Riverdog, thankyou for pointing my error. You are correct, I reversed the rifles and changes in twist. Actually, I'm thinking my keyboard may be dyslexic. My apology for any confusion.

I have a fairly new PSS, currently have a smith rechamber it so I can't check but I'm pretty sure it has a 1-12" twist.
