15% off all guns at Bass Pro Shops, picked up a Super X2

Bass Pro Shops (aka Outdoor World in OH) had a coupon in todays paper for 15% off anything in the store (Sun-Tue, limited to stock on hand) and an additional 10% if you signed up for a Bass Pro Credit Card ( I usually hate this but for the dollars involved I signed up and will promptly cancel the card). I walked out with a Winchester Super X2 3" Grade 1 for $530 plus tax. I'm guessing that's around what the distributor paid. You don't see those kind of mark downs on firearms very often. Just wanted to pass that along. Can't wait to shot it, it fit me like a dream.

Enjoy your new toy. I bought my SX2 a couple months ago for about $150 more than what you paid:eek: I have shot trap with mine to get the feel of it and I really like it!

I paid $296 out-the-door for my Super X2 last year at Wal-Mart. The dummies had mismarked the thing and I jumped all over it. Even got the associate's discount (wife works for them) on it.:D I did not feel one bit guilty, either. The manager and four others were involved in doing the paperwork to sell it. I just told the wife to go about her shopping and I would meet her later. ;) Initially she was getting ready to have a fit about me buying another shotgun until I whispered to her to just hush and I would explain later. Might not have been ethical, but they have gotten to me for thousands and thousands over the past 40 years.

P.S. I asked if they had anymore of them in the back and they said the one I bought was the only one they had.:( MSRP on these is close to $800 now. Great field guns.

Bad news on SX2

While I was cleaning my new pride and joy I discovered a crack in the stock. It will go back for an exchange or replacement on Weds. Funny thing is the 1300 I have had a cracked stock on it when I got it. I think its my bad luck. When I go back I'll be tempted to buy another gun for 15% off..... I'll keep you posted.

Second try here since the data loss....

shotcalla: You may have to go through Winchester on this one. I recall that Bass Pro makes you initial a form, and one of the items on the checklist indicates that all sales are final. I hope they'll treat you right and swap stocks, but since they ran the background check on that gun with that serial number, I doubt they'd do a straight swap.

I took advantage of the same offer. Bought a 870 Super Express Magnum in synthetic (26" barrel) for about $215 before tax. Gun was on sale ($20 off) plus I used the 15% coupon and the 10% credit card discount. Saved about $90. Should be a good duck gun.

How long is this sale going on?

There's a Bass Pro Shops here near Houston, and I was thinking of stopping by. There's this Taurus 608 I was thinking of turning into a bowling pin gun. Unless of course, yet another shotgun makes me take it home with me.

Guyon, I have an express mag just like the one you bought! It's a great gun that needs a whole lotta shucking to make smooth. I added a 10 shot extension for fun and added weight training ;). The first thing I did was to get rid of the synthetic parts. The gun seemed to kick more than my Nova special purpose gun that I bought at around the same time. It must be the harder recoil pad, coupled with the lighter weight of the synthetic parts. The next thing I'm doing is getting rid of that PC safety...

norielX: Is yours the Express Magnum (3") or the Express Super Magnum (3 1/2")?

Sale ended yesterday (Tuesday). It was a 3-day deal, Sunday through Tuesday. I just happened to catch it because they put a huge ad in the sports section of the newspaper.

Don't know about that 10-round extension since I'm limited to three rounds with a hunting gun anyway. :D But I will drop in a new safety. I think I still have a spare old-style somewhere around here. I'll likely add a Pachmayr recoil pad too. Seems to lengthen the pull on an 870 such that the bead lines up correctly for me.

As Dave McC has noted here, you can add weight to the inside of the synthetic stocks to improve recoil. A little epoxy and some lead weighting would do the trick. Some folks just add shot.

Shotcalla,
I posted this number yesterday, but it did not seem to take. So, here it is again.

U.S. Repeating Arms 1-800-945-1392

You might want to give them a call if BPS does not take care of you.

I have replaced a forend due to getting hit dead on with a fast moving clay target at the range one day.

Also, I decided to switch to the black synthetic stock and forend anyway. I ordered mine through Wal-Mart for $51. It comes with a sling swivel stud installed in the butt stock, but you have to get the new forend cap seperately.

Rich

Got my SX2 Replaced

I took the gun back to Bass Pro Shop and they replaced the gun, they did make me fill out a new form and moved in slow motion the entire time (took an hour). Oh well, I got a new gun that I really, really looked at before I took it out the door and I didn't have to ship it back to the factory. The guy at the counter told me I should have gone with the Beretta and I hope I don't have buyers remorse. I will post back after I get some rounds through the gun this weekend.

Good on Bass Pro (well, sort of). I'm glad they did the swap. But you're right about the slow motion thing. I've bought two guns out there, and both times, the employees seemed indifferent to my wait. I was told the background check COULD take up to 72 hours (it took 45 minutes). Other places (Academy Sports, gun shows), the background check is done in 5 minutes or less. I don't understand Bass Pro.

shotcalla,
I'm glad BPS replaced the guns, as they should have. I really place BPS in the same bag as Wally-World and the rest of the chains. All the X-marts operate at a snail's pace.

Guyon, I got the super mag. I guess I didn't make that very clear. I was thinking of getting another super mag but in "Turkey" trim, 23" bbl. I've seen pics of a super mag that someone turned into a police shotgun.

I was astounded to see an ad from BPS in the local paper, which has the same objectivity and views on guns as Sarah Brady.

The Beretta Pintail's going for $569. The 870 Super Mag Express is on sale for $279,tho the pic with the ad shows a R/S 870 with a M/C stock.

TTBOMK, this is the first gun ad in this paper in the 20 some years it's been showing up at my door like unwanted kittens.

norielX: The 870 Express Super Mag with the 23" barrel is a great turkey gun. I have it and was just going to get a 26 or 28 inch barrel to make it a better duck gun (and so I could use it as a backup dove gun).

But BPS had such a great deal this past week that I just bought another 870 Express Super Mag. It was almost as cheap as buying another barrel--the $279 sale price Dave notes minus 15% (coupon) minus 10% (for signing up and paying with a BPS credit card which I'll immediately pay off and cancel).

My experience with the turkey version is that you get much tighter patterns with an aftermarket choke. I have a Star-Dot XF on there, and at 30 yards, it puts a whole lotta shot into a turkey head. Last time I patterned on a paper target, I stopped counting at 50 pellets in the head and neck area.

In terms of other mods on the turkey gun, I put on an Uncle Mike's sling stud kit (tricky with the synthetic stocks, but it can be done), and I added some Tru-Glo fiber optic sights. Finally, I installed a Choate follower and an old style safety. Got three birds with it last year. It put down everything that I managed to call within range.
