148 grn. Speer wad cutters

Which Speer wadcutter, hollowbase or "bevel base?"

What fast burning powders do you have on hand?
I have loaded many Speer HBWCs with 3.2 gr Win 231.

I notice some shooters have gone up to 3 gr of Bull.
Changes in guns, bullets, or powder, I don't know; but don't limit yourself to old specs.

"...3 gr of Bull..." .1 under max.
2.5 to 2.8 of Bullseye has been the target load since long before forever. snicker. Works with cast or swaged WC's. Current Alliant data says 2.8 to 3.1 though. Velocities out of a 6" barrel.

I too use "the" Bullseye load for my DEWC except for my "house gun". When I was shooting the swaged HBWC I kept the loads light, around 2.6-2.8. For my house gun, I load some of my button nosed, flat based wadcutters with hefty loads of W231 as an SD round. I'm getting around 850+ fps and suspect the fat, full caliber nose will impart a lot of tissue destruction with little over penetration (I have neighbors).

With lead hbwc I use 2.7-2.8 Bullseye. Now days I've gone to Berrys plated HBWC and SWC any get better performance with 3gr Bullseye

If they are hollow base, keep the loads mild. They will separate and leave a ring of lead in the barrel then the next shot hits the ring and a bulged barrel may result. Been there done that.
