Is anybody going to the NRA Convention next week in Indianapolis? I am going next thursday, I have never been to one.

I went to one in Houston, 2004, I think. Everybody goes for the Expo to see vendors, nobody goes for the meeting. In fact, so few went to the Annual Meeting, I thought I was walking into the wrong room, but no, there it is. Expo packed, meeting almost empty. The meeting was pretty much a waste of time, turns out, so maybe they all knew better.

If you are an NRA member, admission is free. I do not know whether non-members, other than certain media, etc., are admitted. You can certainly join at the door for about the price of a movie ticket with popcorn, a drink and a candy bar (at theater prices).

I shall be there on Saturday!

I am looking forward to it as I have never been to one. It is about a four hour drive for me, and this is about as close as they ever come so I am making the trip down.

Not this one. I did the 2002 Charlotte and the 2003 Kansas City. Nice enough, but I start to feel like cattle when confined in large masses of people. Not my cup of tea.

I went today. While I'm glad I went, I really didn't know what to expect. For those who have never been, if you're expecting something along the lines of a gun show then you're probably in for a disappointment. I was rather surprised at how few exhibitors were actively selling things at the show (I didn't expect to find guns for sale, but I thought there might be a fair number of holsters, grips, books, etc.). It's really much more like an auto show: a chance for manufacturers to show off their latest and greatest wares to drive future sales. That being said, if you're interested in being able to see and handle a new or uncommon product it's a great opportunity to do so.
