12 gauge Parker Bros.

I just aquired a 12 ga. sxs ext. hammer, damascus barreled Parker Bros. in verry rusted condition. Barrel length is 28 inches and serial # is 13814 on all parts. So far I've only sprayed it with WD 40 and got the parts to move and ran a bronze brush with WD 40 through each barrel and then gun oil. What should I do with it?

Hang it on the wall.......While Damascus barreled guns MIGHT be shootable after a thorough inspection by a qualified and knowledgeable smith, the condition this appears to be in would preclude that. Make it pretty enough to go over the fireplace like it might have done when new.

Definatly a wall hanger

Old guns that should not be fired do make interesting wall hangers. Clean it up refinish the stock (for the practice) degrees and cold blue see how that works. Not shootable don't mean you cant have fun.

Thanks

Thanks guys. Not what I was hoping to hear but I kind of thought it was going to turn out like that. Is there any way to find out what year it was made?

Just remembered there was a company in the early to mid 70s that was sleeving damascus barrels and altering the extractors making 12 gage into a 410 remove the sleve and insert another for a double rifle. Cool idea but it was several grand to do it and only on very high end guns. I just thought that was interesting. Still nothing wrong with wall hangers. The local Cracker Barrel restraunt has one over there fireplace. I like that.

Tubes, or sleeving the barrels is a possible solution. Check with Briley for particulars about using their tubes with Damascus barrels. You might be able to make your gun into a successful shooter for under $500 with a pair Briley's Companion tubes.

The Del Grego family are the goto folks on Parkers. They can tell you if it's worth reconditioning. They do not work cheap.

Tubes are another option.
