12 ga recuded recoil OR 20 ga pistol grip

My father who is now in his 60's is set on a pistol grip shotgun.
So I wonder what is easier to control.
1. A 12 ga with reduced recoil loads (also list the lowest recoil load you found)
2. 20 gauge

Keep in mind he is getting the pistol grip (also a full stock with a Limbsaver recoil pad from me ;) )

I have long forgotten what a 20 ga recoils like.

Here's an alternative idea. Get a knoxx breachers grip and then go down to your local sporting goods store and grab a mcmillan wrist wrap (its the neoprene one with the thumbhole and the velcro). With these two he should have no problem handling regular loads at all.

I have and also recommend a Knoxx stock for recoil reduction. SpecOps is the best option with the pistol grip. Better pic here.

Any Birdshot is going to be the least recoil especially 8 , 7 1/2 etc. If your wanting something powerful then the Federal Tactical Low Recoil works excellent. It's the one on the page # LE13200 . It still does kick but not to bad with the combo of the round + stock.

Thanks Bill
it's been 20 years since I shot a 20ga.

I feel the 20 ga buckshot will be great for home defense. He has his mind stuck on it, and Mossberg has a 20 ga stock/pistol grip combo shotgun I'm going to get him.

Count me in with the KNOXX crowd.

The stock will reduce recoil to around 20ga levels easily.
