1100 vs 1187

I need advise: I am was in the process of purchasing an 1100 LT 20 ga with the 23" bbl, but Remingtion does not offer this model any more. They do offer the 1187 in a 20ga (upland special) w/ 23" barrel and straight stock. My uses are sporting clays, skeet, quail. My 8 year old who shoots a Moss 500 Bantum will also shoot this Rem very soon. Does anyone have any feed back with the Remington 1187 Upland Special shotgun? Especially feeding reliability w/ light to moderate reloads? - Thanks, Rick S.

The question that needs to be asked is, are you going to use 3" magnum 20ga shells through the gun, that is the only advantage that you will gain that I am aware of by getting hte 11-87.

If you go with the LT-20, you can shoot any and all 2 3/4" loads from light target to heavy hunting loads hopefully without any problems. I have an early 80's LT-20 that has close to 75,000 rounds through it in it's lifetime, my first shotgun. Replace the O-ring about 6 times and broke 1 of the gas rings once, but it is still a good shooter, and a good gun to teach new shooters with.

75,000 rounds and all you had to replace was 10 bucks worth the parts, Not too bad at all. Sorta why I like 1100's too

I would go with a Remington 1100.

The only thing the 11-87 will do that the 1100 can't - shoot 3" ammo.
Nothing you listed needs 3" shells.

The 2 3/4" only 1100's are much more reliable with the lighter loads that you will be using.

1100 SPORTING 20 gauge with a 28" bbl and extended tubes.

1100 SKEET 20 gauge with a light contour 26" bbl.

1100 CLASSIC FIELD 20 gauge with a 26" barrel.

I'd go with one of those....

I have 2 1100's. I have a LT-20 and a 1964 12 gauge. Both cycle flawlessly with all types of ammo. I have shot everything under the sun from high brass to skeet loads and cant remember one single hiccup. In my opinion, there is no other shotgun!!! Just my .02

If you've read my recent reply to another post today, you may have noted that I have both an 1100 12 gauge Special Field and a 20 gauge 11-87 Upland Special. I've hunted and shot clays with both and have never had one malfunction.

The 11-87 20 ga digests mild 7/8 loads and 1 ounce field loads with no problems. It's extremely smooth and allows very quick second shots on missed clays (Yes, I've missed a few over the years, but rarely). ;) The heaviest rounds fired from the 11/87 have been 1 ounce Winchester Super Speed high brass field loads.
