1100 Malfunction

I inheritted a Remington 1100 from my grandpa a little over a year ago. I shot it several times and cleaned the bore and whiped down the finish after each use. I finally decided to completely disassemble the gun and give it a thorough cleaning. I removed the trigger assembly, bolt, etc; the reciever was completely empty. I put it back together and when to a sporting clays event and loaded two in the magazine, closed the chamber, then loaded one from the magazine into the chamber. I checked to ensure the safety was in the "fire" position, pulled the trigger, and had NOTHING. Even unloaded, the gun will not dry fire. There is no "click" when I pull the trigger. It seems the hammer is not falling, or perhaps the hammer is not pulled back at all. Can anyone give me any advice here?

I'm no expert at all. I'm sure someone will be along soon to give better advice. But I would take the trigger group back out. While holding your hand over the hammer, being sure not to let it slam, see if it will release when you pull the trigger. Again. Do not let it slam with out holding the hammer!!

When you completely disassembled your R-1100, did you take the trigger group apart? It sounds like you've got a disconnector problem. It's common with an incorrect re-assembly of the R-1100.

The disconnector serves as a safety device in that it "disconnects" the trigger when it isn't safe to fire. It prevents the gun from going full-auto when you don't release the trigger quick enough. If the disconnector isn't functioning (broken, damaged, or incorrectly assembled) it can go to full time mode, where the trigger isn't connected at all. Pulling a disconnected trigger has no effect on the gun. Does this describe your problem?

That is EXACTLY my problem. I pull the trigger and there is NO response from the gun, no resistance, no nothing. Can you provide some advice on how to find and repair the disconnect? Maybe a link to diagram video? any advice is appreciated

I got that several times when I removed the trigger assy from mine. It never seemed to quite go all the way into battery. Pulling the lever back and releasing it several times seemed to work - why I don't know. One thing - put the safety on before you remove the group to keep it from firing when taken down. You probly have the disconnector put back together wrong. This is how it should be.
