1100 and 11-87 Problems

Hello All,

I noticed tonight that the forend of my 11-87 is cracked on the portion of the wood that rests between the barrel and the magazine. I thought this was strange so I got out my father's old 1100 and it has done or is doing the same thing. I didn't want to pull on it too much and make things worse. Is this a warrantied repair for Remington. I assume no, because these two shotguns are fairly old. Can the forends be repaired? I would just replace the forends, but the 1100 has a checkering pattern that seems to no longer be available, and what is to say that this won't happen again in a few years if I replace them? Any help is appreciated.

There are prob more of those cracked than not. A repair is prob not needed as the tube will keep you from squeezing it inward and completely breaking. If it bothers you real bad, carefully and gently try to pry the crack apart where you can get a toothpick in it to a small degree. Take some 5min Epoxy and apply to the crack. Sometimes I use forced air to push the glue into the crack if it will not open very far. Use light air or you will blow the glue/epox all over the place. When you think you have enough it the crack, remove the toothpich and clamp lightly and let set. I would remove the tube for this process or you could glue the tube to the wood. After it sets, clean up excess, esp inside where the tube slides.
