I was at a IPSC shotgun match yesterday
and my 8 month old 11-87P gas chamber
broke off. Is this the spotty quality
every talks about from Remington?
what would you do?
:(

Maybe it's the QC, maybe not. Here's what I'd do in your shoes.

Call Remington's toll free line. Log each interaction and get the name of whomever you talk to. Find out what they want you to do with the shotgun, where to send or take same. Do as they say and log date and time. Again, keep record of whom you communicate with.

Also, note any discrepancies in what you're told.
Please keep us posted, your experiences may help another forum member.

There's been speculation that Remington, who advertises in the parent publication of TFL, may have a loose monitoring of this BB going on. This may help them stay motivated.

The 11-87 started off with some probs, and have gotten somewhat of a bum wrap as a result. Most of the probs have been resolved, maybe this is a one in a million shot.

I have had my 11-87 for about 8 years now, and have shot everything from South Dakota Ringnecks to Texas Dove,Quail,Ducks and Rabbits and thousands of rounds of Skeet and Trap and It shoots as well as the day I bought it.

Dave gives good advice.
I recommend havin pad n pen handy and making a transcription of each call as you are talking and listening.

I have had no problems with Remington but I have had serious phone runarounds from another major player. Having a good log can be right handy if it comes down to he said she said stuff.

And on that note, my 10 month old 1187P had its ghost ring (rear) sight break off FROM THE FORCE OF SHOOTING ONLY. I sent a picture to Remington and asked for a replacement, they sent a dear john letter to send the whole friggin thing in.

SO, I was looking at the Wilson Combat ghost ring sight and was wondering if anyone has comments or advice on a replacement sight, iron or optical!

I have never seen or heard fot he gas chamber thing breaking off a barrel? Since the barrels are basically the same as 1100 barresl I would think that if it was a problem it woudl have surfaced by now. I can only guess that it was a fluke?

Areodog,

I didn't care too much for the factory GR sights on the 11-87P's and went with the regular bead sight and then put on my own aftermarket sights. I looked at them all and narrowed it down to MMC's and the Wilsons (Scattergun Tech's). I have ahot the Border Patrol shorty 870s and founs I didn't care for the Wilson sight. While it is sturdy I didn't like how it could catch on things, they need to make a pair of protective wings for it. I decided on the MMC's and I really like them. Well made and they give a great sight picture.
