10rd 1911 Mags?

Anyone out there using any of the myriad of 10rd 1911 single stack mags?

What brands are worth looking into? Any that should be avoided like the plague?

I'm assuming that the Wilson's and McCormicks are decent but what about Mec Gar, ProMag, Mega Mag etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I had a couple of Wilson 10 rounders, but the little metal tab that fits up against the butt of the frame fell off, and I sent them back and had them replaced with Wilson 8 rounders.

Thats the good thing about Wilson's: if you do end up with a POS from them, they will always fix you up.

IMHO--and I've tried 'em all--the BEST 10-round single stack mag available for the 1911 is the one marketed by Ed Brown...made by Metalform, it is made to stricter QC standards than the plain ol' Metalform mags, AND has a MUCH BETTER "tab" to prevent over-insertion-!!!....mikey357

I had Chip McCormick recommended & that is all I've used. Never a problem. Buy the "Tactical" version with the stiffer Wolffe spings. Rinse out with CLP to make filling with ammo easier. Nice holes / numbers indicating number of rounds loaded.

8-ROUND FRAME / 10-ROUND MAG?

Sticks out the bottom!

My 8's are Mag-Pack; if I were to buy 10's I'd buy, based on considerable experience, Ed Brown.

Mags make autos work.

I've used McCormicks a lot. They work well, and I like the look of the jumbo basepad on them vs. the little tab like on the Wilsons. And there is no way that you could over insert that base pad from hell.

I have borrowed some Wilson 10 rounders for a steel match. 300 rounds, perfect function. But that is all my experience with the Wilsons.

Hi-cap mags are good but I don't like them for my 1911 guns. Since they are single stacked they stick out the bottom of the gun. Get yourself a Glock 30. 10 rounds in the mag, compact so you can carry it easy, and hey it's a glock.

That'd be cool if I wanted a Glock 30 I suppose. I don't care for them that much though. They're fat little pigs. I have a Glock 36 for carry :).

I have a bunch of McCormick 8 rounders and GI 7 rounders for the 1911 now. I know the 10's stick out but, as it's primarily a range gun, I don't really care that much. I mostly just want some 10 rounders just because I want some 10 rounders :). I would like to get reliable ones however.

I carry a ten rounder as my spare mag. I figure that if I have to go through the first eight and need to reload in a gun fight I don't really care if it hangs out the bottom of the gun!

Avoid the "el cheapo" kind without a stop on the front. They can go in too far and can completely jam up the gun.

Yeah, that was one of my concerns Jim. I know the McCormicks have that funky basebad and the Wilsons have the steel lip, what about the other manufacturers?
