10mm?

What do you guys think of this round? How available is it? (now and in the future) What handgun chambered in it do you like best?

1. I love it.

2. Availability: I never had a problem getting factory stuff or components for my handloads.

3. I had a Glock 20C that was an absolute sweetheart to shoot right out of the box, and got even better when I did some work on it.

It is the best of the exotics. Only problem being availability of firearms. Glock, EAA and Smith & Wesson are the only manufacturers currently chambering guns for this round. Ammunition is widely available and as long as 40 S&W remains popular, the 10mm will survive. It is the same bullet and the tooling to make cases is paid for. It does not cost a manufacture anymore to make 10mm as it does 40 S&W.

I'm not into big-bore guns so people who shoot .454's, .44's, etc., will laugh at me but I find the 10mm (loaded with full-power loads -- if you're gonna use reduced loads then you might as well stick with the .40S&W) to be a handful -- having more recoil than a .45 (in my opinion). That said, I'm thinking about getting one -- the only thing holding me back is my doubt if I can tame the recoil with a minimum of practice (200-300 rounds a month) and still learn to shoot it accurately.

Had a Glock M20, didn't function with hot ammo (not even after a grand).

For the (wonderful) 10mm suggest EAA or STI.

Never actually shot a 10mm, but have heard good things. More than enough power, some even say too much. I think that 15+1 rounds of 10mm in a Glock 20 or 20C is the ultimate in commercially available handgun stopping power. My only problem is that it was a little big for me, otherwise I'd have one!

Re: Guns. Glock 20/20C is the current standard, but there are also 10mm's made by Bren, Smith, Colt and EAA.

My 10mm's (eaa and glock) are accurate and handle full loads very easily. I love the round and would recommend it highly. Reloading is a brease and is very fun.

Love it. It is the ultimate cartridge for reloaders.
My Glock 20 is a dream to shoot.
Yes, it has more recoil than the .45, but it is very easy to handle.

A Glock 20 with a full-capacity mag is pretty much the most firepower you can get in a modern autopistol.
Add a factory 6-inch barrel and you have got some mean ballistics.
That is what I use for my home defense gun. With an Insight M3 tactical white light mounted on the rails. What more could you need?

I have to say though, if you are not reloading, your best bet for ammo is to order it from Georgia arms. It is not easy to find 10mm in the store, and when you do it is not always full power stuff. Just order it from Georgia Ammo by the case (~$180/1000) and it is inexpeosnive, quality ammo and delivered right to your door!

The 10 is the hot ticket. Everyone complains about how underpowered handguns are then they ignore the most powerful auto pistol cartridge chambered in realistic firearms.

10mm ammo will be around for a long time. Every gunstore will not carry wide selection of ammo for 10mm but the good ones will have what you need. If anything the cartridge seems to be enjoying a resurgence so the supply issue will probably get better.

The thing that got me over 10mm fear of obselence was the fact that alot of effort is being put into making 45acp perform like a 10 (40 Super 400 Corbon, 45 Super, etc). That tells me that there is interest and need for something with more push than the current crop of auto pistol cartriges provides. The 10mm fills that nich.

As someone who likes to shoot its fun to shoot something that challanges you to get better and refine your techniques. You will never learn how to really ski until you leave the bunny slope.

I bought a Delta Elite when they first came out. Did a bit of cleanup on it, but nothing major. Been very happy with it, both full-house and plinking loads. No problems. The recoil is not any big deal.

The 10mm auto is the best cartridge design of the past 35 years. The G20 is my favorite carry gun and it shoots like a million bucks.
I like the 10MM so much i sent Hamilton Bowen an old Ruger 3-screw 7 or 8 years ago and had him convert it to 10MM, a modern 38/40 as it were. The first time I ever took it to the range it took down the first three 8" plates and two Pepper poppers in a row...at 200 meters. let me hasten to add i was well into the second box of 50 cartridges before I hit the sixth target; just couldn't stand prosperity, I guess.
The M1006 and the 5" M610 I tested were nothing short of spectacular shooting guns. I've yet to ever see a 10MM that wasn't a real shootin' sonofagun. The 10MM is a wonderful cartridge.[ and all the 10MM autos I've ever fired gobbled up 40's like nobody's business...but you didn't hear that from me.TM
