10mm out of style?

At the range today, I wanted to rent a 10, and they have stopped carrying them. They claim only Glock is still making them, and they have goone out of vogue. Everybody is switching to the 40.

I thought the 10 had staying power. Are only Glock still making guns for it?

EAA Witness, STI, and maybe someday Para(?)

Had the Glock, only gun I've sold in ten years.......excellent cartridge, though.

Next stop, EAA...

I wasn't aware that the 10mm was ever "in" style. I have a S&W 1006 that I like to shoot from time to time but, around here anyway, I can't hardly find ammo for it anymore.

It seems that it was just another "wonder cartridge" that wasn't. Maybe mine will be a collector's item some day :).

Ten is far from out of style and is the envy of all other exotic cartridges. Problem is that most factory manufacturers do not have a platform that can handle a 10mm round without a catastrophic failure.

Robert said it, most guns can't handle the cartrige, ie, colt! and their delta elite.
www.glocktalk.com has a forum dedicated to teh 10mm round! we love it.

hopefully it will make a come back.

I have always felt that the 10mm in full power loads (not the FBI stuff) would make an excellent submachine gun cartridge. Something like a Beretta M12s or an MP5 in 10mm would be just awesome!

If by "in style" you are refering to the popularity and widespread availabilty of the 10mm, then the answer is clearly "no."

It is a great cartridge. Among those who appreciate it, I would imagine that it will be "in style" for some time.

I sympathise: got 4 4" 41 magnums I'd wear ( one at a time ) but the only good defense ammo is the Silvertip and that kicks more than I want.

I don't think the 10mm ever really got "in style", it just never caught on really big. It's a very powerful caliber, but perhaps too much for a majority of pistol shooters. I know it was too much for the FBI. :)

I don't really care if the 10mm is "in style" or not. I have a Glock 20 and I love it. It is my woods gun. Ammo is not hard to find either. I can find it in my favorite gun shop, and order from on line Corbon, Trition, Pro Load, Georgia Arms. I do not reload but I am in the process of getting started, then the sky is the limit.

Don't get hung up because some folks do not appreciate the finer points of shooting this fine caliber. Go to the 10 Ring on Glock Talk. The number of dedicated 10mm fans is growing daily.

Cheers and good shooting.

The 10mm is an elite caliber that is loved dearly by all those willing to take a close look at it and cut thru all the crap to find the truth about the 10.

The 10 has taken such a trashing in the gun rags by gun writers that are just a bunch of mental wimps that cant seem to get with and hang on to the facts.

Even Sig, yes Sig, trashed the heck out of the 10 in their first ever magazine saying that the 10 could never feed reliably because the case is just too long...

OH PLEASE!!!

Sig has lost my respect except for the fact that Sigs are fine guns.

I encourage everyone to cut thru all the bull crap out there and check out the 10. You will find the most versatile and capable auto pistol cartridge availible today.

Also, i invite anyone that has a 10mm to come join the most exclusive club in the world... The 10Ring over at GlockTalk.com. Everyone is welcome at The 10Ring and it is a great place for members and non-members alike to get all sorts of info about the 10 as you bask in the sunshine with your favorite refreshment while sitting around The 10Ring's private Tahitian lagoon style pool and feast your eyes on the HOT 10Ring Babes sporting the latest in skimpy fashons.

I've got a Delta Elite and a Delta Gold Cup that I dearly love. The 10mm fills the "gap" in the auto pistol lineup between the Super 38 and the 45 ACP.

When it first came out and Cooper was interested, Norma loaded the 10mm up to 41 Magnum ballistics. After the FBI shootout in Miami, the bureau blamed their guns so bought the 10. Only problem was, their limp wristed agents thought it kicked too hard, so they downloaded it to about 9mm specs. That opened the door for the 40 Short & Weak, which has claimed the 10mms rightful place in the picket fence of cartridges, IMHO.

Realize this, the 40 can be a great cartridge and it fits in a pocket pistol. The 10mm is a superior cartridge, but due to its length it requires a larger sized pistol. ;)

The Delta Elite can't handle the 10? On what is that statement based? I have a Delta Elite that I've been shooting for a few months now, and it has gobbled up everything that I've put through it. Admittedly, I haven't tried to break 1200fps with a 200gr bullet; but a 135 @ 1400 beats the vaunted .357/125 load, and it doesn't kick or blast any more than .45 hardball. I'll wholeheartedly agree that there's been more hooey than fact written about the 10.

AndABeer,

If you go to the HK web-site, hit 'HK News', then 'UMP .40', the demise of the MP-5/10 and MP-5/40 is due to the UMP. Also got the info from http://www.hkpro.com/MP5-10.htm . HKPRO is a pretty comprehensive site for info on all that is HK, even more than the official US site. Pretty good source, lotta great pictures.

I sure wish HK would come out with a USP10, or even just a conversion. (sigh)
