In a recent topic there was a discussion of the 10mm & 40 S&W calibers. I mentioned that I had gotten an AMT Automag IV in 10mm Magnum and a fellow User, Coinneach, said he had not run into this caliber before. Well, for those of you that are unfamiliar with it also and would like to know some details, here are some... (it's very close to the 41 Magnum)

Case length: 1.242"
Bullet Dia: same as used in 40 S&W and 10mm

Loading data from some years ago:
(see below)
Bullet used in below stats:
Hornady 200gr. XTP
Fired from 8 3/8" barrels (Automag IV and S&W model 57)

10mm Magnum
18grs #2400= 1569fps
21grs H110 = 1597fps
21grs WW296= 1621fps

.41 Magnum
19grs #2400= 1490fps
21grs H110 = 1453fps
21grs WW296= 1413fps

Does anyone know of any other pistols chambered for the 10mm Magnum other than the AMT piece?
Wayne

What bullet weight are we talking about? A 180@1569 would generate some hellacious impact, but it might be a tad unpleasant on the right end of the gun as well. :)

I wondered about this 10MM "magnum".
I seen this on starline brass's website. I thought it was a misprint, but they also list 10mm.

Is the OAL too much to use in our standard 10's??

Who shoots it, how long has it been around??

It would be kinda cool to shoot this outa the Glock 20!!

Coinneach: These stats were for a 200gr. Hornady XTP.
Could be a tad unpleasant, you say? Naw, the noise is loud enough that it takes away your concentration from the hand, wrist & arm movement during recoil. Besides, it's a manly cartridge. Designed for men, built for men, manly men. (sorry, I couldn't resist.) This might be a good chambering for the LAR Grizzly.

TVDean:
Yes, the OAL is too long to use in the standard 10mm guns & magazines. I just checked another source on the specs (after I wrote my original post above), the Accurate Powder reloading guide, and they quote an OAL for the 10mm Magnum of 1.555 max, and OAL for the 10mm at 1.260. Brass lengths are 1.255 for the Magnum, and .992 for the regular 10mm.
Who shoots it? Only real men - no women. (ha-ha)
How long ago? American Handgunner magazine printed a nice article on the 10mm Magnum with a ton of loads & velocities in Jan/Feb 1992 issue.
Back then, it was a proprietary cartridge developed by IAI for use in their Automag IV pistol. It's loaded to pressure levels similar as the .41 & .44 Magnums - 40,000 CUP
Yes, Starline makes the brass. I've got some.
