10mm BHP?

Is there any such thing as a 10mm BHP? Saw it mentioned in a Ludlum thriller, and I'm wondering whether it's just "artistic license".

Thanks-

No-one I've heard of makes 'em. The frame geometry precludes rounds of that length. That's why there's no .45 ACP BHP's either, much as about a million people want one.

You can get a .40 though. That's almost as good, although the two rounds don't REALLY compare all that well. Something to do with reative power levels...

Ludlum's clueless on guns - I remember that one of his characters from "The Matarese Circle" was fond of a Browning BAR Grade IV in 7mm Magnum as his carry pistol.

I stand corrected. I read on another forum that FEG has made a .45 cal. clone of the BHP. I've never seen one, but someone told me they had one, so there you are. This doesn't exactly address the question, but I like to keep my story straight.

"a Browning BAR Grade IV in 7mm Magnum as his carry pistol."

I'll take 2 please.. and a pair of PAST shooting gloves

FEG did make the GKK in .45ACP.

It is a double action though and, as eluded to previously, the grip size has considerably more girth than the classic Hi-Power due to the much larger (OAL and diameter) cartridge.

IF they ever made a BHP in honest-to-God 10mm Auto ...

... (admittedly a big "if") ...

the line forms BEHIND me. ;)

Another author BSing gun terms like so many do. Cussler makes frequent goof ups too. However in this case they do make HiPowers in .40 and .40"=10mm so he`s sorta okay...sorta. Marcus

Has anyone snooped around the after market barrel makers to see if they offer a HP barrel in 10mm? I saw a 357Sig barrel for a HP, I think it was at Bar Stow.

The 10mm round is too long for the HiPower`s architecture (both feeding and ejecting). The HiPower is also nowhere near strong enough even if it did fit. It`s a great gun..in 9mm or even .40 but it`s just not up to the 10mm. Marcus

10mm P35

The 10mm cartridge in the HiPower platform is analogous to installing a small-block V8 in a Vega. Anything is possible. Many, many changes will need to occur, however. The likelihood of it functioning reliably and for sustained periods is suspect. One question immediately arises in this scenario. Why bother? Curiosity? Certainly. Just to see if it can be done? Why not. Will I try it? ...ahh, uhm, no.

Having had a V-8 Vega that I actually drove as my everyday car for almost a year (many years ago!) I got a big kick out of that example. One of those things I built because I *could* instead of because I *should*. ;) :D Marcus

Concur w/ Marcus.

If they don't build it to handle a more powerful round, don't even think about it.

The closest I can get you is an EAA Witness in 10mm. That's it. No others other than the drastic plastic Glock 20.
