I have heard a rumor that a 10mm Glock will shoot 40S&W ammo. Is this true? Common sense tells me that you would at least need a drop in barrel.

I too have heard that the 20 will fire the .40. Apparently all the head spacing is done via the extractor.

You could try it, but why? The 10mm is, as the title of your post suggests, greater than the .40.

I have fired a few rounds this way. It works. Although the 10 and 40 are designed to headspace on the mouth of the case the extractor does provide enough tension to hold the case while the striker does its thing. I wouldent depend on it though as extractor tension is a iffy thing. Also, the 10 is sprung quite a bit tighter and has a heavier slide than most 40s so cycling may be comprmised. The 40 rounds I fired felt like they were bareley moving the slide enough to eject and load.

That makes sense, thanx to both of you. My reason for asking was, I currently have a Glock 22 (40S&W) and my list of needed "tools" includes a Glock 27 (40S&W). If i was able to reliably interchange, I was considering the compact 10mm instead of the compact 40S&W because I like versitality. Relaiably chambering 40S&W is more important to me though so I'll stick with my original plan of Glock 27. :)

Carrying a Glock 20 for 2 days is like having my mother in law stay for 2 days.

The Glock 22 is allot easier to carry.

Why carry the large and shoot the medium ammo in it?

PreserveFreedom,

I have both of the guns you are talking about. Assuming you are looking for a PDW weapon, I would recommend you make your decision on how you plan to carry the gun. Although I like my 27 alot (its a great shooter) but its kind of an awkward size in that its smaller than it needs to be to wear on the belt, and bigger (wider) than it should be for pocket carry, ankle carry, or some other "deep" concealment. The Kahr MKs are much better at deep concealment.

The 29 is completely inappropriate for the deep concealment but is just right for belt carry. It is, as they say, a handfull of gun where as the 27 is small enough to make a speedy presentation a challange. With the hotter 10mm ammo the 29 will perform balistically as good or better as the full size G22 with the long barrel.
