1076 fed empties

Some say that a pistol that feeds empties proves that it is reliable at least when it comes to feed jams. Others say that it proves nothing and ask why anyone would want to feed empties. Well I was taking a class a couple nights ago where a few different topics were covered including shooting on the move, use of cover, low light, etc. Of course the basics were also reinforced, accuracy speed and clearance procedures.

Well the time came for the clearance drills in conjuction with the movement drills and low light and I had not brought any dummy rounds. The range had no dummy 10mm either. The only other student was shooting a HK in .40 so we tried some of those dummies but they missed the extractor and obviously fed too far forward. On a lark, I suggested the use of spent cases. One way or another it would cause a malfunction. My fellow student and I swapped mags and filled them up with good and bad rounds. I was very shocked several mags later when the pistol had in fact fed all 20 empty cases. I expected feed jams out the wazoo. It is a damn shame Smith quit making these things but I got mine. :D

Me too. :)

Mine's a smooth-feeding pistol as well. I've never really seen any complaints about Smith 10XX series pistols in terms of their feeding-reliability.

Yeah, Smith 10mms are big and heavy, but typically stout and well-made. S&W should at least bring back the 1066 (4.25" barrel), since in .45 acp they've retained the similar "Commander-sized" 4566, offered now in some kind of tactical format.
