Today on 29 Mar 1911, the U.S. Army adopted the Colt .45 Auto as its official sidearm. I just want to take a few moments to reflect on what John Moses Browning's great design has meant to solider's and civilians alike. Think
about it's service in WW1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam, not to mention all the 'little"
events along the way. Serving with Law enforcement and along with John Q. Public on the civilian side, to protect life and property.
Here is a simply designed pistol that has survived it's test in combat longer
than any other military sidearm, and most rifles. I think back years ago when
the US went to a "wonder" nine pistol, I thought why mess with something that hasn’t failed it's mission.
Today the "1911" lives on in the US arsenal, serving with the best Special
Operators on the planet, along with a host of other nations Special Mission
Units. It is produced by a number of makers who sole product is the 1911. As
the saying goes...."Man... what a gun"
So to the .45 I say THANKS and Happy Birthday
now go and give your .45 the hug it deserves
