100 yard scope for .22 mag

Im expecting my XT-22M Marlin to come in this week since I ordered it from my favorite gun shop on Tuesday and Id like to know what power of scope would be good to get close to view of the target at 100 yards. Im talking pretty close. Adjustable of course.
A 3x9 or similar is not going to work,which every one knows that of course.

ethere a 4x12 or up to a 16 power well work great the 4x16s let you see the bullet holes so you can make quick changes thats what i would go with
 
Okay so its adjustable from 4x32 to 16? :confused: ...Im not that experienced with scopes. A guy said at Bass Pro that the 3x9's are more powerful than the 4x32's :confused: I might purchase a leupold or nikon. Any suggestions?
 
While not totaly necessary, I am partial to 6-24x42mm, but why stop at 100 yards, tree rats beware!

100 yard scope for 22 Mag?
Simmons 22 Mag brand. low cost good quality scope.
3-9X. adjustable objective.
Street price $55 to $65.
I bought and setup four of these.
Gun Tests Magazine rated them as winners and I agree after buying, installing and using them. I did have one exception in winter when one turret adjustment seemed to hang up in extreme cold.
My experience and my customer's experience for a low cost good scope: This product is by all means worth putting on your 22Mag.
I don't happen to have any mounted on my 22Mag. I was so impressed with the product I opted for the 4X fixed power on my 22Mag.
Mine is sitting behind the door on Coyote duty. The adjustable target turret and adjustable objective models are serving rimfire silhouette duty.
Neat thing about silhouette- we don't shoot in winter outdoors. It was not the end of the world to have one scope hang up the adjustment in cold weather.
Botton line is this ( and I've had them all ) you can spend $150, $220, and more and more. My personal silhouette rifle has a $455.00 Leupold.
But for general purpose 22Mag hunting or plinking, the low cost Simmons model I described is not bad.
 
The guy at bass pro shops did not teach you much about scopes did he. The 3-9x is the power settings. A 4x32 is a fixed power scope and will not adjust in power of magnification. The 4 is the magnification power and the 32 is the objective lense diameter. To make sure we are all talking about the same thing we need all the numbers that differentiate between models ie: 3-9x32, or 3-9x40, or 4-16x42 and so on. If you purchase a 4-16x42 you should be happy. More expensive glass usually means clearer picture. I recently put a 3-9x40 Tasco on my 22lr. Looked ok until I tried to see bullet holes at 50 yards, and I could hardly see them at 25 yards. When I switched to my Vortex Viper 4-12x42 on my 243 win I could see them clearly and crisply on 9 power. That is the difference between a $50 scope and a $350 dollar scope. Spend as much as you can afford and save yourself some headaches. And have fun:D
 
One of the best I have used and at low cost is the Mueller APV 4x14-44, super clear edge to edge, adjustments are excellent. I paid $129.

Power is not the deciding factor when spotting .22 holes at 100 yards. It takes high quality resolution and precise parallax adjustment. Any of the high quality scope manufactures' 4X12 with an adjustable objective should work. If you are shooting competition a scope power of 20X or higher would be a good choice.

I can see my holes even better with my Leupold 6-18X on my Kimber.
But it's not too hard when the single ragged hole is .375 inches after a couple magazine dumps.
 
Hummmmm strange. I have no problem seeing .22 cal bullet holes at 100 yds with a bushnell 3-9x40 A/O sportview. I have one on my Winchester 190 and one on my Weatherby XXII.
 
Seeing small holes

You know there are things called contrast and sun angle. Where I work I have the ability to take home scrap cardboard and other goods. Some of it white, dark, yellow, blue or other.
You tape a paper target on some of these colored backgrounds in different directions like south, west, or east, and you can really see some of these small holes pretty well.
 
what gun is that .300 weatherby mag? Is that really a .22? That is an awesome .22 (if it is)! It reminds me of match guns I see. What brand and model is it? Thanks!
 
While I am just a plinker I just checked my $60 what they call a Simmons 4x32 .22mag scope on my Marlin 831T and was able to clearly see the stars on a 3x5 American flag at 100 + yards. Good enough for me and it mounted right up. It does have some mag adjustment too.

Hmm, there was a thread about this a couple weeks ago. Someone said their pet peeve was abbreviating adjustable scope power like that when fixed scopes are already designated that way. I mentioned that it made sense but I have never actually seen anyone do it before on any forum. Well, now I have and it has been shown how it can be interpreted incorrectly by new shooters. They were right.
