10 round CZ magazine sawcut -WHY?

My two extra CZ .40S&W magazines were posted from the dealer last week and are apparently 'post-ban' in s/steel 10 rounds.(But that's OK - as I only need 6rounds X4 for the match I am shooting). They are a bit tight still but look good polished, at $65AUD each - they'd better!

But they are both "disfigured"(or maybe marked...why ?) by a fine saw-cut at the 10 round mark and have been rather roughly wire-brushed to finish. It does not appear to weaken the basic strength of the magazine, though it goes 75% of the way around.

Has anyone come across this before ? There are no maker's marks or any ID on the mags atall.

I would appreciate any detective work on this from FL.

Yep, my friend's CZ-100 9mm has the same cuts around the mag at the 10-rnd level. We came to the conclusion that it was to prevent anyone from modifying them to 10+ rounds.

Yep that is exactly right. It is designed to cause the mag to brake away if you try to punch out the dents that cause it to limit the capacity.

Thanks to you both for your help, it simply hadn't occurred to me about anti-modification traps or that an extra 2 rounds of 40cal could be so terrorising to the world community.

"The law is an ass" as Mr Bumble said(IE = a donkey... to our USA comrades!)

As usual, you get all the 'good oil' on FL.

Many thanks again.

When I bought my .40 CZ75B I noticed this sawcut on the factory mag also.I didn't even think of it as being feature to limmit the capacity, but I didn't like the fact that the mag wouldn't drop free.So I removed the mag brake and flattened it.The mag dropped but still got hung up on the sawcut. So I started looking for aftermarket mags w/o the sawcut.I ended up buying Promags. Now the mags drop completely free, are totaly reliable, and only cost $13.95 apiece. Now,with this problem fixed, its the best handgun I own.You can buy these mags from Ajax Shooter Supply tel# 214-630-8893.Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments Marcus, and the good advice over CZ magazines. I think your 'B' is different from my straight CZ-75 as the magazine drops out of mine as soon as the button is pushed for quick reloading. The saw-cuts on mine appear to be smoother also.

Your $14USD equates to around $45AUD over here(people coming over here for the olympics will have a gun buying bonanza at our prices for especially antique arms!)

The funny thing is, we have no need for a 'capacity ban' on magazines for handguns in Oz, as the pistol itself is a strictly prohibited weapon already !!!
So why do we get them - because you in bigger market in the US do? :)

Same Deal in Canada, Mag ban is in Effect here because the USA did it. Handguns are a Priveledge to Own here and are treated as Restricted weapons with tight Limits on the Where and How of Use.
