10 round 9mm 1911 magazines. Who's the best.

Just picked up a Smith and Wesson SW1911 Pro Series in 9mm for a good price and need some 10 round magazines for it. Without knowing it came with a couple a 9 round kimber mags with extended base plates.

Who's the best or at least doesn't suck.
 
I got a MecGar 10 round mag on fleabay for around 19.00 and it worked flawlessly, but is ridicously long!LOL
My bad, I didn't see the OP refer to 9mm. Mine is .45 acp

I have the old style Wilson Combat ETM mags with the polymer followers, and these work great in my 9mm STI Trojan 1911.
 
I've used Chip McCormic and Wilson only, both worked fine. Full size and officers with spacer.

I've had great luck with Metalform 8 round mags on my CCO, I'd be fine trying those in the 9 or 10 full size gun as well.
 
You have to test it w/the ammunition you intend to use it with.

Local cop bought top line aftermarket magazines. He experienced jams - lotsa them. Anyway, instructor personally took the gun to determine what was wrong. He went to the boom room (small room where the shot trap was) and it sounded like a war. Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! for what seem like endless minutes. His conclusion? The aftermarket mags were all bad. When he stuck with his own Colt or USGI 1911 magazines, no problems with any ammunition.

I plan to but I don't have any of the S&W Mags as the PO substituted Kimbers before selling it to the place I got it. Need extra mags in case the kimbers are duds.
 
Looks like i'm going to try some Wilson Combat and Mec-Gar magazines. But other suggestions are welcome. The Mec-Gar looks pretty affordable vs the Wilson Combat which could mean twice the mags for the price.

There is some really good information in this Ted Yost article about setting up a 9mm 1911. It mentions the new style Wilson ETM magazines with the metal followers, and the Wilson Flat Wire Recoil Springs. I use the older style ETM magazines with the polymer followers, and I have the 15 lb WC FWRS and the 1/4” full length guiderod and plug in my 9mm STI Trojan, and the gun works great with this setup.

This also mentions the Wilson Combat #414BS slide stop, the WC #34P ejector, and the WC #415-S70 extractor, which I don’t have direct experience with, but if Ted Yost says these will work to improve the functioning of a 9mm 1911, I’ll believe it.

I use the metal form in my RIA. The factory Mec Gar mag resides in a landfill where it belongs. It would double feed when firing every time. The metal form mags have worked every time for over 2 years. I have one that sometimes does not engage the slide lock once the last round is fired. Though not a single feeding issue from any of the 5 I have. I think they were around $20 each or so when I bought them.
 
Well 2 Wilson and 2 Mec Gar magazines arrive. Still haven't been able to test them but the Wilsons seem to have a heavier spring. I asked my wife to try and load one for me. So she did and said you only get 2 bullets because that's all I can do. Reload often.
 
I have had poor results with Wilson 9mm mags in a SA RO Compact. Which is odd, as Wilson’s arena are excellent in .45 cal guns.

The best I have found are the Tripp Cobra Mags. Not the cheapest, but they work very well. Better than the factory 9mm mags that came with the gun.
 
+1 for Mec-Gar and Checkmate 9mm mags. I run them in my Springfield 1911 9mm and haven't had any problems running boxes of the 115grn Winchester 100 round white box ammo.

Well a very short test but the Wilson and Mec-Gar mags worked fine and so did the 9 round Kimbers. More tests when ammo is more available.
