10 mm Questions....

Any major difference between a S&W 1076 (or 1026 for that matter) and a Colt Double Eagle in 10mm? They look kinda the same...

The 1076 has a frame mounted decocker & no safety. As I recall, no decocker but it does have safety lever.

The 1026 and Double Eagle have 5" barrels and the 1076 has a 4.25" barrel. Both have 9-round magazines available, but standard Colt magazines hold 8 and are the same as the Delta Elite's. S&W had a problem with their decockers at first IIRC and did a recall. Some of the S&W pistols have MMC-style adjustable sights and some have Novak sights, while the Doulbe Eagles have standard Colt sights. Accessories for the Colt will be pretty much non-existent, while there should be plenty for the S&W pistols since they are the same frame size as the more popular 45xx series pistols. Otherwise all 3 are good pistols without any particular problems or quirks to worry about.

If I had to choose one I'd go with the 1076. The Double Eagle is pretty esoteric and it will be a much bigger hassle if you want to get accessories or replacement parts for it later.

If you're going to shoot 10mm, those are nice but not too recoil absorbing.

The most accurate and enjoyable 10mm shooters are the Glock 20 and the SW 610 revolver. The polymer frame and Hogue rubber grip really allow you to do some comfortable pwoerhouse shooting.

OThe steel-framed semi auto's including the Delta Elite just transfer that snap and recoil right into you. Not too pleasureable for shooting more than 2 boxes of the Winchester Silvertips or Hornady XTPs or hot reloads.

Just my opinion, but I'd shoot those ones first before trying the 1076 semi auto.

I agree with jtduncan and would add that the Glock 29 is also a pleasant shooter. I shoot the G20 & 29 every week with 200 gr Blazers and some 175 gr Silvertips (neither are wimp loads) and am well over 5000 rounds through each without problems. The indoor range we had here several years ago complained the frames of their Delta Elites were prone to cracking. I have no experience with other 10 mms.
:D

My S&W 1006 10mm is a pussycat even with heavy loads. It's also very accurate and has been 100% reliable. Big though. I love it.
