10 gauge!

They cost alot-like a grand!
10ga cost alot to use too like $20 a box for steel (more for non toxic)shells.
I am useing my BPS 10 ga, which is my waterfowl gun, on turkeys this week with 2 oz of #4 lead in an extra full tubed 30" barrel. Itb throws 90%+ 30" patterens a 60+ yards for real with that load! Lets me hunt turkey while a rancher drives the jeep looking for a flock! I don't like the camoflage and calling routine so the 10ga is the answer for me! Turkeys seem to let you get to about 50 yards in a jeep on this ranch-they are in for their yearly shock! At least a couple are-either sex!

Rem SP-10

I own a Remington SP-10 and have loved it for some 10+ years. It is expensive, and somewhat expensive to feed, however, it is not a sporting clays gun. It will work well on turkeys and geese. I shoot steel shot primarily. The recoil is soft, softer than a 3 in 12 ga., and the gun throws tight patterns for some distances.

The disadvantage outside of the price is that the gun is somewhat heavy.

Sincerely,
Goose Hunter:cool:

Bps

just ordered a BPS Stalker in 10 Gauge today I'm excited should be fun encouraging to see there are others out there that back the old 10 gauge instead of saying why would you want that?

My 30" BPS Stalker using 2oz of #4 Rem 3.5" mags blew away a nice fat gobbler for me at almost 65 yards with most of the pattern in the head and neck I aimed at! I am VERY impressed! Course those 80 yard pass shots with heavy "T" on geese are spectacular also!:)

I have an old Ithaca Mag 10 Roadblocker. I'm here to tell you, if you can't handle the problem with a 10 gauge, you aren't going to handle the problem, the problem is going to handle you.

The SP-10 is a nice 10ga, if you look hard enough you can find them for 800 or so. Used even less than that, or if you like the design you can look for an Ithaca, as Remmy bought the gun from them and made a few changes.

Before you buy, check out the Browning Gold, my fave 10ga, although my BPS 10 is just fine for now.

Real Long Range

I bet the shell all the way on the right, the four gauge, can hit birds at a couple of hundred yards. Too bad pterydactyls(sp?) are no longer around.:D

I hunt Geese in Los Banos Calif. in a private DUCKclub during the season-when I'm invited. The year before last I went to Canada with a couple guys-now THAT's the way to do it! We went to a private reserve, it cost about $250 US per day, but believe me- worth it !:)
