Well, I have a H&R single shot 10ga with extra full screw in turkey choke that should be here tuesday. I also have 1 box of Remington #4 Hevi-Shot and 6 boxes of Federal rifled slugs for it. Anyone have any infomation that I should be aware of before I try out my new toy? I already figured that slugs in the turkey choke probably aren't the best idea nor is steel shot (hence the box of Hevi-Shot). I would really like to find a rifled choke tube for it (kind of like an old paradox gun) but I don't think such an animal exists (apparently no one deer hunts with a 10ga anymore and I can't say I blame them).

The only advice I can give is to add 3 extra recoil pads and wear 8 to 12 layers of clothing to protect your shoulder from the recoil!
I had a Remington SP 10 ga awhile back, but it was an autoloader. Great for turkey and geese, but if was sooooo heavy I hated carrying it. The recoil wasn’t too bad (because it was so heavy), but a single shot…. My shoulder hurts just thinking about it!!

I would start with loads that are under 2 0z-like the remington high velocity steel 1 3/4 or similair to start with. The magnum 3.5 inch 2 1/4 turkey loads are down right nasty recoil wise, hold the gun firm cause it generates enough kick for the stock to slap you in the face. At 35 yards with the extra full choke it patterns ok but was a little loose I thought for a extra full choke. Either way I've found it's very effective on turkeys and crows.
