10/22 won't auto-load

my 10/22 has recently stopped chambering a new round after being fired. The spent round also fails to eject. The bolt is not being pushed back after the round is fired. When I cycle the bold manually everything seems to be fine (moves back smoothly, cocks the hammer) - I can't feel it snagging on anything. I also tried a thorough cleaning, but that didn't help either. Any help would be appreciated.

I just have the one clip (30 shot) - but I did try chambering a round then taking the clip out and firing the gun - it still didn't eject the shell

Put A Single Round In The Chamber And Fire The Rifle.
DO NOT PUT THE MAGAZINE IN.
If It Cycles You Will Find It's The After-market Mag Is Dragging On The Bolt

Yes, I have tried loading just a single round with the same results. To see just how far the bolt was being pushed back (if at all), I placed a strip of masking tape behind the cocking lever before I fired the gun. What I found was that the bolt is being pushed back to the point where the hammer starts getting resistance from the hammer spring. So I removed the hammer and spring to look them over - neither one seems to have any defect. It seems to be a problem with the bolt itself.

The hammer spring is likely put in upside down.

Have you or anyone else been into the action of this rifle? The slot on the spring retainer must face up.

I will check to see if that is the case - it is likely, since I didn't know that was the case when putting the spring back it.

Problem solved - Turns out I had a box of sub-sonic ammo mixed in with the rest. Thanks all for the tips.
