10/22 Tech Sights issue

I've had tech sights on my ruger 10/22 for a few weeks now and I've had some trouble sighting them in.

I've tried moving my front sight slightly to the right so my rear sight is not entirely on the left. But after a few magazines my front sight keeps slipping back to the center and moving my groups to the right. Is this a bad thing? Should i just adjust the rear sight?

One notch adjustment on the rear sight is only 1/8" at 20 yards but the front sight seems to move it an inch with about a single mm adjustment.

I used the instructions included and have gotten them pretty close to zero at 25 yards... But this past weekend has just been frustrating and I'm kind of at the end of my rope.

I would leave the front sight in the center of the barrel, maybe put a drop of loctite on it or perhaps a smudge of rtv silicone to help it hold in place. I would then adjust the rear site, as long as you can get it on target I wouldn't worry about it.

I've put some blue loctite in the front sight set screws but the heat from the barrel after a dozen rounds has been loosening them up i guess. Should I move up to red?

Hi Lost,
I just came across your post on the issues that you are having with your front sight. I have a couple questions for you that may help to resolve this. Did you tighten the screw that goes in the front of the front sight. There are the two screws on the sides of the the front sight tower but the one in the front expands the dovetail base locking it more firmly in position. This screw must be started into the sight before it is placed into the dovetail slot otherwise you can not align the screw with the threaded hole when the sight is already in the dovetail slot. I look forward to your reply on this.

Hey Law

Yes, I followed the instructions included with the sights and the front screw is firmly in place. I went and shot again this past weekend and my right screw had backed out, even with loctite, and was lost in the cartridge/dirt/sand debris. I switched the left screw over to the right hand side, since it was drifting back to the left, and this time the front sight didn't move... I'm going to try and order another set screw and washer this week but with only the one i shot damn straight and had no movement.

Something I've used on my AR15 adjustable gas block screw(which gets HOT) is to wrap the screw with some white Teflon tape. It's the stuff used for wrapping the threads of plumbing pipes. It's supposedly good to something like 500 degrees. I've had it on my gas block screw for quite some time now and it has not moved. Put a tight wrap on the screw and screw it back in.

Larry (law27) the fact that you responded to this problem shows that your company is truly a class act.

Keeping Screws Tight

Find a store that sells gas powered model airplanes. Check and see if they have any liquid nylon thread locker. I am still using a tube that I bought years ago. Degrease the threads of the screw hole and the screw, a drop on the screw threads, run it into the hole, remove and set to one side of an hour. Reinstall the screw, adjustments are easy and it stays where you put it.

OkieGentleman - Thanks, I'll have to check that out. I don't know of a single place near philly that will have that but I will find it haha. Thanks again.

Well it looks like my suggestion about getting some liquid nylon for your sight screws was no good. I have checked my local hobby shop and he did not have any liquid nylon thread lock and did not know where to get any. I have spent an hour on the net and cannot find any nor can I find the tube that I bought a number of years ago. Sorry about that, try the teflon tape trick and I hope it works.
