10/22 Target Scope?

I know it's a worn out topic, but gaining input on scope choices always draws some good opinions, so I thought I'd float another thread on the subject. I decided to transform my 10/22 with a new .920 target barrel and stock, which means I should also switch out my 4x scope to something more appropriate for a target rimfire rifle. So, my only criteria is a 50mm objective. How 'bout some input boys...what do ya like out there?

More than one way to skin this cat !!!

On one of mine, I have a Burris "Signature Series" scope. 50MM, AO, 4-16X.
Excellent performer. The only time I go, up to a 50MM, is on my target rifles. I'm sure there are enough choices out there, that will make your head spin. ... :D

Why 50mm do you think it will be more bright or clear.?

I use a Mueller APV 4-14x40 that has very clear optics better then many expensive scopes,it's mounted on a 10/22 with target barrel.

...on purchasing freedom I'm pro choice.

Now that makes me wonder...if I just wait a few months, perhaps a new government agency will make this decision for me. I'll just have to fill out the rifle scope application paperwork, pay the mandatory fee, wait for the preliminary review panel to convene, submit the probable supplemental forms, appear before the rifle scope approval board, pay their fee, and await their formal dictate...no scope permitted, turn in my rifle...

Plausible? Dang right!

KMO asked:

You mean, you won't allow me my one and only criteria?

LOL - I'll allow you to put any scope you want on it.
BUT - If me, I would not go with a 50. Had one on mine and it just looked out of place - Made the entire rig look awkward!

Target scopes don't need the light-gathering of dusk/dawn hunting scopes cause your shooting in broad daylight! But you can use all the power and focus adjustments you can afford! A sunshade is also a plus.

Here's my recommendation:

I would look at the Weaver T 24 x 40 or 36 x 40, if it is just for targets.

That Bushnell that Ray suggested is a good scope option also.

If you don't have those in the budget I would look at the Mueller Target 8-32x44.

That 50 is going to look really big on your 10-22. As far as scopes, I really like Nikon and for the money, it's hard to beat the Monarch.

Another fan of the Mueller 4.5-14x40 APV. I have three of them of bull barreled 10/22's. They are great scopes for the money.

Ditto on the Mueller APV. If the OP can get past his 50mm requiremant, it's a fantastic scope for the money (only spent $122 for mine). Well-made with very clear optics. The adjustable objective makes it a perfect match for rimfires (no need to worry about parallax issues at short rimfire ranges) and I know of plenty of fiolks who use them on even larger calibers (5.56mm ARs and even one guy who has used one for several years on a 30-06).

Target 'scope...

KMO--The Weaver T-36 would be overkill on a 10/22, IMHO, however I have one on my heavy .22 benchrest rifle and it is really nice. At 50 yd, no need for a spotting 'scope; you can see the bullet holes clearly. Heck, you can see EVERYTHING clearly!!

Very nice positive adjustments, too.

If you can get your hands on a used one I'd say go for it.

I can see clearly, now !!!

TRUE; but looks like he is going for a target rifle. As far as seeing everything, that part is also true. I can actually see my rounds going down range. Pretty neat !! .... :)

Some great input here...thanks guys. I'm about ready to make the call on this...leaning toward Nikon...

I'd suggest you decide (maybe you already have) what distance you are going to shoot this target rifle at.... 50 or 100 yards and get a scope that's parralex is set at that distance.

I agree...Even though this 10/22 is not a long-range rifle, I can't see the point in setting it up in this target configuration unless I plan to use it for 100-yard targets. The scope I end up using will likely appear to be overkill on a .22 LR rifle, but I expect good results at that distance...

I have the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18 on my 10/22. It is for target competitions out to 210 yds. There is a parallax adjustment for various yardages.

There is 50 MOA of adjustment so I use Burris offset rings to get my 50 yd zero in the top of the scope and have plenty of room to come down the 25-30 MOA needed for 210.

AO is a must for the rimfire. The Mueller 4.5-14x40 APV or slightly higher priced APT with the 30mm tube are proven scopes for the 10/22.

Perfect combination with Talley rings.

Anything else well look like this.

I run a cheap barska 3-9 scope on my 10/22. At 25 yards it'll shoot a single hole with a 5 shot group that's nearly bullet on bullet.
