10/22 standard vs fiber optic sights

The Tru-Glo ones are supposed to be easier to see in low light levels and have a higher contrast. Never tried them before, though.

I am definitely not a fan of the stock sights on the 10/22.

Good question and good timing. Just picked up another 10/22 last weekend and while it will wear optics of some sort it doesn't have any yet and I've been shooting it lately with factory sights. In the past (we're talkin ancient history here) I never had an issue using them but my eyes ain't what they used to be. If I want to have back up sights (not even close to a requirement IMO though) I'm gonna have to do something different and have been thinkin about the Tru-Glo's.

I have this set on my International model 10/22. Fire Sight steel front bead and Williams rear peep sight.

With the rear peep at the rear of the receiver the sight radius is greatly increased.

The peep thread is standard and I have several choices of peep hole size, and you can use adjustable peeps like this one on a Parker Hale.

They are good

"Not for carbine barrels"
Ya got to take a second look as these will fit onto a carbine barrel, just not a receiver mount. Actually this barrel mount would be preferred over the receiver mount. .... ;)

Now then; In the evolution of my eyes seeing too many birthdays, I cannot see most OEM open sights, very well. So, I step up to the fiber optics and then a RedDot or scope, in that progression or regression. I especially like the ones that come with different colored light pipes. I also prefer chartrues (spelling??) . ...

the fiber optic sights are great for visibility. Can see them much better with my aging eyes than I can traditional sights.
The williams fire sights are the ones I use.

I have no doubt you are right but that was an exact quote from the website. My confusion has less to do with what they will go on (kinda a duh that they're made for the carbine) but is more like "what the hell were they thinkin".

I'll also go along with the barrel mounted vs. receiver preference. Receiver is where the optics go.

Proof is in the pudding ???

Well, I went back and took a second look myself and that is exactly what it says. Did a bit more digging and I think I understand why as it looks like they will only work on the "Rifle" barrels and not the carbines. Just hard to understand why TruGlo would do this when most folks have the carbines. Would appear that the tapered barrels are a problem. ......

Here is one review;
Purchased these sights to increase visibility during dawn and dusk small game hunting. Found that I could not adjust rear sight low enough to bring point of impact onto target. Lowest setting was about 3" high at 50 ft. Rear sight was not very durable. Broke during the third outing.

I bought a set a few weeks ago. Wish I had bought them a long time ago. I had quit using my 10/22 because I hated the factory sites. Didn't like it with a scope because I have better rifles for that so it really didn't have a purpose anymore. The Williams sites fixed that, very easy to see and pick up quickly. Gonna get a front sight for my 22/45 next.

Am I understanding this right? You prefer the shorter sight radius and forward mount (barrel) rear sight over the receiver mounted rear sight:confused:

I much prefer the rear mounted peeps.

One size does not fit all !!!

and forward mount (barrel) rear sight over the receiver mounted rear sight
Generally, I certainly do; Although you have to address this on a case by case basis. Peeps are one exception. .. ;)
