10/22 question

While cleaning my 10/22 this evening I noticed that the barrel is very loose in the stock. It is a factory Ruger target stock with a Butler Creek 20" bull barrel. With the set screw tightened, the barrel is moving approx 1/8" vertically. This CAN'T be good for accuracy I am thinking.

Is there a way to fix this? This model doesn't have the front barrel band.

Take the barreled action out of the stock and check the two allen screws that hold the barrel into the action. They may be loose. If so, tighten them up but make sure the barrel is clocked so the extractor on the bolt fits in the barrel's extractor groove without rubbing the sides of the groove.

Well, That's Interesting

Allen screws not loose, but the retaining block they go through is SPLIT IN HALF!

Well, guess I am going to be ordering some parts this evening. :o
