10/22 Issues

I just got a Ruger 10/22 and I am trying to put on the scope mount but I cant...

The 4 screws in the receiver I can't get out. They are too tight.

I have a flat head that fits them but I can not get them to turn. Just scrape off the paint.

Try using that kroil...that stuff is awesome..and this is highly unlikely but it may have lock tight on it..try a little heat...lighter will work..hold it on there for a good minute and see if it breaks..but wd40 or kroil is your best choice

Kroil oil and I'm not trying to be a smart *** here but are you turning screws counter clockwise when trying to loosen, I had an engineer once working with me trying to turn off a valve clockwise, no joke. Never seen mount screws that tight but Kroil will do the trick.

You are talking about steel blind screws in an aluminum reciever. Don't know if yours is new or old but they should not be a problem. Perhaps someone has put a little Locktite on the threads but sure as heck don't know why they would. If so, try some heat, say a tip of a soldering iron on just the screw but not for long. Yes, turn them CCW. It surely is a puzzlement. ....
Again, come back and let us know how you made out.

Be Safe !!!

Let it set overnight with some penetrating oil. Try a screwdriver that has a larger handle, with a bit that still fits the screw tightly. If that doesn't work, wipe off the excess oil and try heating it with a heat gun, be careful with the heat.

never used kroll but I've seen PB blaster do amazing things on the suspension bolts of a '78 suburban and lots of other rusty nasty bits.

I have some WD40 I can bring out tomorrow.

I was able to get out one screw.

It appears that the "bluing/black plastic" went over the screw making it stick I think.

Thank you for the help.

If its is a NIB gun then loctite is not likely but if, like you said the blueing/whatever they use flowed into the screws, try the hairdryer like everybody else suggested.

Soak it in a penetrating oil, heat it a bit and they will come out. Once you get them out and are mounting a scope rail I do suggest using a bit of blue loctite.

I had a similar experience with one last year. The finish had in fact gotten around the screw threads. I had to have a friend hold the receiver while I applied down pressure on the screw drier while turning it.

Could be a new coating process(dipping) they are using, installing screws prior to coating. If you have correct screw driver a slight tap on top of driver with rubber hammer will loosen seal, bad fitting screw driver will mar finish.

Is it okay to mount the scope rail on 3 of the 4 screws?

I can not get one out and wish not to scratch it anymore...

Edit: Gave in and did 3 screws (second from the back does not want to come out). But my scope is REALLY high because the stock rings do not fit and the only ones I could have to use risers.
Going to fashion a high stock (Home made monte Carlo) with a glasses case attached... Ugly but effective.
