 Any one have any idea as to why gwb sent out 1.4 million christmas cards which said "HAPPY HOLIDAYS" rather than "MERRY CHRISTMAS?" Was it because it was the politically expedient thang to do?:D Makes one wonder if he will thump his nose in the face of his Gun Loving supporters as quickly as he has his Christian coalition.

The fact that the president is president of a nation that is NOT made up 100% of Christians explains why he didn't write "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays."

Even secularists can enjoy the holidays, since "the Holidays" is widely taken to include New Year's Eve/Day, as well as Christmans, Hanukkah, ...Kwanzaa, even...

It's not just "politically expedient": why should the president have only nice wishes to express toward Christians? Would you like it if the next president were Jewish, and sent out cards that said, "Happy Hanukkah" rather than either "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"?

What I can't figure out is why people make such a freakin' big deal about this!! He's president to lead the country in POLITICAL matters, NOT RELIGIOUS MATTERS. So WHO CARES what he says in a holiday card? That is NOT the business of running the nation!!

This makes me sick. :barf:
You make it seem as though he is in office to serve Christians. He is in office to serve AMERICANS. Get it straight. He is not there to push a Christian agenda on the nation.

And in case your memory is so lacking, he signed the lawsuit preemption bill into law. Is that not good enough for you? Frivolous lawsuits were the MAJOR threat to the firearms industry, and now they are pretty much a non-issue.

Because the the more rabid liberals are under this delusion (more like hallucination) that W. is trying to push his religious faith onto everyone?

If he had sent out card that had said: "Merry Christmas", it'd only be a matter of time before such "great" folks like "Lady Killer" Kennedy, "Comb-over" Biden, "marry money" Kerry, "has been" Fonda, "Do as I say not as I do" Pelosi, and "screamer" Dean would be whining on CNN about it?

I'd love to see all the bible thumpers up in arms about the president pushing his religious ideals. Then they'd finally start repeating the "seperation of church and state" mantra.

I'm more concerned with whether my taxdollars are paying for the 1.4 million cards. I don't think sending one card for every 4600 people on earth is a presidential necessity.

Azurefly, I am not a bible thumper, however I am a christian. I assume that you would also approve of the removal of "In God we Trust" from our currency and public places??
This being the case and the fact being that less than 10% of people in this country hunt and probaly about that same amount target shoot---which makes it obvious that gun lovers are in a minority group therefore, applying the same logic, you would approve of the banning of guns  for the same reason, as being "politically correct???"
"Frivolous" law suits are not only law suits against gun manufacturers but careless doctors, druggist, drunk drivers, faulty equipment suppliers and on and on, by for the most being careless "big buisiness":(

TYME, you bet it was your tax money that paid the bill.

tyme,
My Grand Mother received a card from Nixon before she died. We were told at the time that everyone over 90 years of age receives one. She was very pleased with it so I would say it brightened her Christmas or is that Holiday :)

Frivolous lawsuits are also against very careful doctors that simply couldn't save a patient and companies who produce perfectly fine products but are used by complete idiots to harm themselves. Should I be allowed to sue GE if I hurt myself by making toast in the shower?

Tax dollars were not used for the Bush's Christmas cards.

The cover of the cards, which were paid for by the Republican National Committee, show the presidential pets, two dogs and cat, playing in the snow on the White House lawn.

I'm delighted that they were at least funded privately, but I still don't like it.

If government employees were involved in the distribution of the cards, the money had the effect of propping up an already bloated government.

If government employees were not involved at all, the RNC shouldn't have used GWB's name on the cards.

or, the obvious answer would simply be that many of the cards that went out were sent to people who might celebrate Kwanza or Hanukah?!
Alot of you are not understanding what this Christmas debate is about. It's not the fact that they are trying to force everyone/anyone to celebrate or say "Merry Christmas"--- it :D is about having the right to do so if you want to.

Ya know, when someone complains about the card or gift I give 'em, they don't get anything from me again - ever. I'd not make a good politician - not very good at trying to please everyone all the time, but that's part of the politicians' jobs isn't it? Gotta be happy with what you get around me. Those that aren't or won't are miserable creatures. Think I spy a few of that sort here - never happy, no matter what... Miserable. :p ;)

The last time I checked, there were a lot more important issues to be concerned with rather than a non-issue as what a holiday greeting card has written on it.

A frivolous law suit is one that is dragged through the courts at great expence to the tax payers, and lost. It is not frivolous if it is won, regardless if the guilty is a good doctor who let the knife slip or cut the wrong pipe.
The real purpose of the deal is to limit the liability of a guilty party, regardless of the cercumstances.

The problem is that doctors are often blamed when they've done everything right. Just very recently a physician was sued because a heart transplant patient of his died. The heart itself ended up being bad despite the fact many other physicians had confirmed it was a good candidate for the transplant.

Sometimes people just die. Working in the medical field I see doctors blamed for things they can't possibly prevent.
